Michael Smith reports that owner Al Davis is "seriously considering" promoting LBs coach Don Martindale to head coach. Martindale, 45, has done a fine job of developing young LBs Thomas Howard and Kirk Morrison. The Raiders haven't had a defensive-minded head coach since John Madden, but Martindale has reportedly drawn interest from the Broncos, Browns, Jets, and Ravens and Davis doesn't want to lose him.

Re: Don Martindale may be next Raiders coach
This move isn't happening.
We are saying it so the interested teams realize that they may be competing with the Raiders' overpayment-happy front office.... those teams want a D-Coordinator, and wont pay like the Raiders will for a HC.
That said, I'd expect Martindale to be our DC next season. I havent heard anything at all, which is strange, about the HC / OC jobs. Raiders might be playing this one close to the chest, which is not a good thing. At all.
