The guy has been a beast for the Raiders so it will be unsettling to see him go. However, his production has gone down - a lot - since his first couple seasons, injuries have been a problem, and he has been wanting to renegotiate his contract for years, and the inability to get a new deal (and why should he get a new deal?) has maybe messed with his head... I don't know that he wants to be a Raider right now. Add on top of that that Trevor Scott - sixth(!) round pick last year - may be ready the be THE MAN and we are rumored to be getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick for Burgess and I think you say bye Derek, thanks for the sacks and move on.
Scott BTW had five sacks in limited playing time as a rookie last year - a team high and tied for the lead among all rookies - and he has come back cut and with another 10 pounds of muscle.
The NFL is about talented youth. One guys start breaking down, production diminishing, salaries are bigger and guys wanting more money, it's a good idea to move on and get good value while you can. Walsh was the master of that - he probably would have dealt Burgess at this point as well.
