I like Smith, though I'm wary of taking an ILB in the 1st. We just have so many issues.. I think we got a bit rosy-eyed last offseason about our team. Thought adding Lynch was a bigger move than it was, didnt count on anyone having down seasons.

We need 3 major things here:

Pass catchers
Pass defenders
Pass rushers

I would expect that days 1 & 2, we address all 3 of those situations. I'd also love to be in on Trumaine Johnson, who will be the premier DB in free agency. Hell, bring in Vontae Davis too. Then we can draft a pass-rushing EDGE guy in the 1st, and a WR on day 2.

10. Oakland Raiders

Roquan Smith, ILB, Georgia: Jon Gruden is an offensive-minded coach, but he can't live up to enormous expectations unless he fixes a horrific defense. Smith is the first linebacker off the board because he's clear and away the best one in the draft. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2018-nfl-mock-draft-bengals-find-andy-daltons-successor-in-lamar-jackson/

*Oakland Raiders: Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia: A defense featuring Khalil Mack shouldn’t be as bad as Oakland’s was in 2017. Smith is maybe the best off-ball linebacker prospect since Luke Kuechly. https://www.ajc.com/sports/college/nfl-mock-draft-2018-predicting-the-first-round-top-players-nfl-draft-order-for-the-2018-nfl-draft/x6kaI4SJR5TMlBbyTMSvcN/

I'd love to trade up to get him depending on the cost.

Penn State RB Saquon Barkley unofficially recorded a 41-inch vertical jump at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Barkley (6'0/233) continues to put on an athletic show in Indianapolis. On Thursday, he turned in 29 reps in the bench press -- tying Nick Chubb for best among running backs -- and now he has a 41-inch vertical to his name. He's expected to blow up the 40-yard dash shortly. Barkley's trying to make a case for a top-five selection this spring. So far so good.

The Pick: CB Josh Jackson, Iowa

Even after selecting cornerback Gareon Conley in the first round last season, the Oakland Raiders are in need of help at the position. The prospect of pairing Conley, who missed most of the 2017 season with a shin injury, and Josh Jackson looks like an instant fix for a secondary that was torched often last year.

Jackson has ideal size (6'1", 192 lbs) and grabbed eight interceptions in his junior year before entering the NFL draft. He doesn't have blinding speed (4.56 seconds in the 40) but is quick and physical at the line of scrimmage. His press and bail technique are the best of the top-tier corners I've studied.

The Raiders could look to get younger on the offensive line with this selection, but new coach Jon Gruden should resist the urge to draft offensive players and instead focus on fixing his defense http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2762798-2018-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-7-round-predictions-post-combine http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2762798-2018-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-7-round-predictions-post-combine

2018 NFL Mock draft: Daniel Jeremiah sees strong combine performance putting Jaire Alexander to Raiders at 10 https://www.silverandblackpride.com/2018/3/7/17094206/2018-nfl-mock-draft-daniel-jeremiah-strong-combine-performance-jaire-alexander-to-raiders-at-10

I believe it's to high to select him or Josh Jackson.

10. Raiders — Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech: At 6-5, 253 pounds, he's bigger than Smith yet nearly as athletic. Edmunds racked up 30½ tackles for loss over
the past two seasons and is just the kind of asset a disappointing Oakland defense, ranked 23rd in 2017, badly needs. Only 19, Edmunds' upside is insane. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/draft/2018/03/07/nfl-mock-draft-2018-post-combine-saquon-barkley-josh-allen/401305002/

I desperately want us to trade up for Saquon Barkley. I highly doubt he makes it to 7th (Tampa Bay).

I dont think he makes it out of the top 5 still. But if he does, I doubt we take him, or any LB. Both Gruden and Reggie have been averse, in their careers, to taking RBs or LBs in the first 3 rounds. Of the 2, only 1 time has a RB or LB been taken in Rds 1-3, and it was Barret Ruud (rd 2) by Gruden in Tampa in 2002 or 2003

Denzel Ward would be nice! Melvin/Conley/Ward would be a great rotation!

10. Oakland Raiders

Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State. The Raiders are seeing massive turnover at the cornerback position with David Amerson, Sean Smith and T.J. Carrie out the door. Rashaan Melvin was a nice pickup, but Shareece Wright is nothing more than depth. Enter Ward, an elite cover corner who has everything but prototypical size. He'll be an excellent slot corner and should excel in Oakland, where Melvin and Gareon Conley can match up with bigger receivers. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/two-round-2018-nfl-mock-draft-broncos-take-barkley-as-qbs-go-1-2-3-4-after-trade/

There's reasons to like Kolton Miller. His profile is the type you want for a guy who is going to develop into an elite pass blocking LT although I doubt he is ready for that Day 1. He is going to have to develop a bit...his body and mentality. It's been done before.

But then there's Tom Cable and the idea that he might be overdrafted based on mocks. I really HATE calling players reaches because:
1) That just may have been Reggie and Gruden's board.
2) Who knows where he was on other teams' boards.
So I leave it that he could have been overdrafted but....

I love the draft and taking swings for the fences.

So I'm concerned with bringing Martavis Bryant into the fold. He needs to be re-signed at some point and he was a problem in Pittsburgh. Why bring a problem over here that isn't cost controlled? He's gonna be a 2nd or 3rd WR which was his problem in Pitt.

Oh well.
Things are diff with a new sheriff in town so....let's see. He did a lot of spinning straw into gold when he was here last time.

Whats frustrating about the Miller/Parker picks is that we've spent draft capital on lineman the past 3 years, and are cutting bait. There's very little chance that Feliciano, Jylan Ware, David Sharpe, Vadal Alexander, and Kirkland make the roster now. That's a glut of day 3 picks right there, all changing because we switched from Tice to Cable.
