OT: Raiders least desirable team to play for

Post#1 » by turk3d » Mon Aug 25, 2014 8:01 pm

According to poll:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11405 ... m-play-for

Pretty bad for a Bay Area Team (maybe not for long).

The Raiders organization needs to get a GM that knows to draft players from the 1st round, to the mid rounds, to the late rounds and a head coach that actually knows how to coach. I hated the hiring of Reggie McKenzie and I really hated the hiring of Dennis Allen. Say what you say about Hue Jackson, but he knows football especially on the offensive side of the football. The Raiders were a dynamic team under him. It was just the defense that held the team back with Chuck Bresnahan as the defense coordinator. If they fix the GM and bring back Hue Jackson or Jon Gruden as the head coach, this organization will be back on the scene again.

It almost seems like they have willfully driven down fan and civic interest so that they can get out of Oakland. Good riddance.

I think the firing of Reggie was right.

But if this season will be a failure, Reggie was an godawful GM.

Yeah when they left in the 90's I was pissed having grown up with all the Raider lore. Still a niners fan, but loved what was the Raiders.

But now, I kind of hope they do leave and find a good place to play. I don't care where they go, but it sounds like the league wants LA to have a franchise again. The Raiders deserve to have a good home and it'll be good for the franchise.

On the other hand Mark Davis is a disaster and can't be trusted....have you seen his hair?

Almost looks like he's really one of Trump's illegitimate sons. I wonder if Al knew.

Meh ... I meant good riddance to the Raiders, not good riddance to Oakland. It's one thing to put a good product on the field and want to capitalize on it in the best market possible, but to put as crappy a team on the field as they have since Gruden left and what do you expect for the most expensive sports entertaiment ticket going? The raiders haven't delivered a product worthy of fan or civic loyalty or interest. And the bastardized the A's stadium to appease the stupid effing Raiders when Davis went loco on them the first time. It's just a bad organization and they have dragged down the city for long enough. It was different before Al lost his marbles, but at this point they are a shell of a team and do nothing of value for anyone on or off the field, so piss on them. They will f :censored: it up in LA, so I don't think the league really wants to let them have that market. Instead they will end up the San Antonio or OKC ass-Raiders and suck wet rhino balls for another decode or so.

They are the Browns West. Eff em.

You mean Hue Jackson?

I think this season will be failure at 4-12 or 5-11. Reggie McKenzie let go some good pieces here with Jared Veldheer, Hue Jackson, Lamarr Houston who should be a DT instead of DE, and made some huge bogus decisions such as trying to sign the injury-prone Rodger Safford to a 5 years $42.5 mil contract instead of resigning Jared Veldheer who wanted to stay and play for the Raiders, but was let go to the Arizona Cardinals for 5 years $35 mil because he wasn't a player that Reggie McKenzie drafted  Thank God Safford failed his physical and resigned back with the St. Louis Rams at 5 years $31.5 mil. Don't forget McKenzie also traded for Matt Flynn for a 2014 5th round pick and a conditional 2015 draft pick who was a complete disaster for the Raiders because he was one of McKenzie's Green Bay guys

Then there's the 2013 NFL Draft where McKenzie failed miserably. He traded down from #3 to #12 in the 1st round to the Miami Dolphins to draft a CB who was coming off a life-threatening injury in D.J. Hayden over guys like DT-Sheldon Richardson (2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year), DT-Star Lotulelei, FS-Eric Reid, and even RG-Kyle Long who happens to be the son of a Raider legend Howie Long. Then he drafted Menelik Watson in the 2nd round that was part of the Miami Dolphins trade that the Raiders traded down from #3 to #12 and he looks lousy and constantly injured. Then the Raiders wasted a 4th round pick on QB-Tyler Wilson who didn't even make the team :banghead: Bottom line is if the Raiders want to actually be a football team, Mark Davis needs to get rid of Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen and go after Jon Gruden or Hue Jackson as the head coach and go after a talented assistant GM or a really good scout to be the next GM.

Buffalo has a great fan base, it's pretty lame if players don't want to go there because it's cold.

Three seasons into the MacKenzie/Allen era, who Mark Davis has largely left alone, all I can say is, can't blame Al Davis anymore now can you?

I woul have preferred to ride out Al's guys and Hugh Jackson.

You know. Jackson made two unfortunate mistakes, the biggest one was dissing the entire team (even though they deserved it). You just don't do that in front of the press. That was probably something Al just wouldn't allow.

The other mistake: Getting Carson Palmer (who I know was his boy) and basically dumping Campbell, although showing nothing since, had this team playing behind him and I think the players really liked the guy plus he played pretty darn good for us. But I agree, Jackson was a very good coach, especially offensively. Our offense has been crap ever since.

Fixed. Don't worry Twinkie. I got you 8-)

That's another thing too. Mark Davis has left all the power to Reggie McKenzie to let him draft the players he wants, sign the free agent players he wants, trade for the players that he wants, cutting the players he wants, not resigning players that he wants, and hiring coaches that he wants, but what has become out of it? Two back to back 4-12 seasons and probably another 4-12 or 5-11 season. That's enough! Reggie McKenzie has too much of a ego and is too big headed to think he can actually put together a football team, which is why he got rid of Al's guys like Jared Veldheer, Lamarr Houston, Michael Bush, Desmond Bryant, Mike Mitchell, Hue Jackson, Al Saunders (fired him from offensive coordinator in order to give it to Greg Knapp :banghead:), Steve Wisniewski, Rod Woodson, Mike Waufle (he's now coaching with the St. Louis Rams and that defensive line is downright SCARY!), and so on.

I'm with you about riding out with Al's guys. The Raiders were 8-8 under a dangerous offensive team coached by Hue Jackson and Al Saunders, a nice running game from both Darren McFadden (his best years are under Hue Jackson by the way) and Michael Bush that helped the Raiders to be the #7 rushing team in the NFL, a good offensive line who only gave up 25 sacks during the 2011 season (tied for 4th in the NFL in least allowed sacks), and a passing game that shouldn't even be #11 in the NFL with a receiving unit of Mr. Butter Fingers himself Darrius Heyward-Bey (64 catches, 975 yards, and 4 TDs in 2011), a rookie 5th round WR in Denarius Moore (33 catches, 618 yards, and 5 TDs in 2011 :o), a 4th round WR only in his 2nd year in Jacoby Ford (19 catches, 279 yards, and 1 TD in only 8 games in 2011), a unknown no position player in Marcel Reece (27 catches, 301 yards, and 2 TDs in 2011), and a hell of a receiving RB unit of Michael Bush (37 catches, 418 yards, and 8 TDs in 2011) and Darren McFadden (19 catches, 154 yards, and 5 TDs in only 7 games in 2011). The only problem was the complete mess on defense and they could easily go into the offseason with a new defense coordinator, draft some defensive players, cut some defensive players, and sign some defensive players to make that defense to at least somewhat respectable. There was no need to completely change the team. It was the defense that needed the work, but McKenzie was far too narcissistic, egotistical a$$hole to see that. Damn you McKenzie! Damn you!

What do you think about their #1 pick this year? They claim this guy's a stud? Hopefully not another Rolando McClain.

I'm not too sure Turk to be honest with you. I hope he works out and be that defensive playmaker that the Raiders really need, but I really wanted Jake Matthews to be the franchise LT after McKenzie let go Jared Veldheer or trade down and get more draft picks to draft Aaron Donald to be that penetrating, disruptive DT after McKenzie let go Lamarr Houston and even when he was here, they played him out of position at DE instead at DT.

But I agree, Jackson was a very good coach, especially offensively. Our offense has been crap ever since.

Hue Jackson dissed the entire team? Don't recall that. Sure you're not thinking of Bill Callahan?

Jason Campbell is and was a journeyman, but regardless he got injured, which directly led to the Palmer trade.

I don't think getting Carson Palmer was a mistake, he has been the best Raiders QB since Rich Gannon - though hopefully Carr turns into a stud. But letting him go was even worse - not only have we not had a better QB since, not only has the QB position been a disaster since Palmer, but we didn't even save money in the deal.

Just look at the litany of QB mistakes:

Cutting [edit: trading for basically nothing) Palmer when you don't have anyone better to replace him and you end up spending more money on Flynn + Palmer's dead money

Losing a pick and wasting money on Flynn, who is horrid, immediately loses his job, and soon after gets cut (incurring more dead money)

Wasting a FOURTH ROUND PICK on the horrible Tyler Wilson, who is pretty quickly cut

Wasting an asset (maybe not a QB) in Terrelle Pryor, who already has a place in the NFL record book for longest TD run, and who ripped a 44-yarder for Seattle last week

It's looking more and more, wasted another pick and more money on Schaub, who holds another NFL record, but one you don't want to have - consecutive games with pick six INTs.

The ONLY good things this team has done with QBs since MacKenzie took over is drafting Carr - and really the results are still out on that - and finding the undrafted rookie McGloin. But you can't build a playoff team solely on the basis of finding decent 7th round and undrafted players.

The price Hue paid for Palmer for a slap in the face for the franchise. Palmer was never the future and really only the present in the season he got traded because they started 2-0 and there was some kind of hope. And don't forget the infamous "Greatest trade ever" quote.

The season after that he was the past and everybody knew he will be gone soon - deadly for a QB.

But yeah Reggie is a awful QB evaluator.
