Who do you guys want in free agency?

http://nfltraderumors.co/top-25-2015-nfl-free-agents/I want Suh sooooo bad.
and I think he can be had if we get Rex Ryan or maybe even Todd Bowles.
I still want to move to 3-4 and I think Suh is talented enough to be dominant next to Jelly in that system.
I wouldn't mind Randall Cobb either.
I'd pair him Cobb with Jones and focus my draft elsewhere.

suh, torrey smith, cobb should be top targets
I'm not really sure who FAs are at this point, but I'd like the positions addressed, listed by how important it is to upgrade (assuming we switch to 3-4)
ILB
RT
WR
LOLB
TE
C
FS
RG
RE
DT
If we stay with 4-3, push DT to #2 behind MLB (ILB)

Revising what I said earlier, here are some guys I really hope we pursue:
A.Q. Shipley, C, IND
Fantastic run blocker, slightly + pass blocker. Really shined when called on. No delay of games in his limited snaps (<400)
Pernell McPhee, OLB, BAL
He'd be a pass-rushing end here. He's not making waves as a top target, but he really should be. Him and Mack on either end would be ferocious, and allow us to take Amari Cooper 4th IMO.
Cecil Shorts III, WR, JAX
Might be Miles Austin. Might be Jeremy Maclin. Has hammy issues, but when healthy, is a great chain mover. I'd like to see us move on from Holmes, Streater, Moore, and maybe even James Jones. Shorts is a nice fit as a #2/3 WR.
Virgil Green, H-Back, DEN
Love stealing him from Denver. He's like a TE version of Reece. Most shocking is that he graded out hugely well in run blocking.. Suspect hands but great athleticism. I'm personally not that enamored with Reece going forward, who's heralded as this great weapon but really is just stuck somewhere between HB, FB, and TE.
Mason Foster, MLB, TB
Only if we go to 3-4. Spent a lot of time learning to the best in the biz, LaVonte David. Injuries a concern.
Roy Helu Jr, RB, WSH
Murray looks to be a solid workhorse back, but really leaves a lot to be desired as a pass catcher. Here is our Vereen/Woodhead.
Michael Roos, OT, TEN
Please don't retire. Come here for a year, teach Menelik footwork, and anchor our right side.
Sergio Brown, FS, IND
No idea how Woodson got a probowl vote. He missed a ton of tackles and despite being solid in coverage, wasn't good at being the last line of defense. Sergio is solid at both, could come cheap.

why a tackle?
why not a guard and send Howard back out to tackle?

FA update:
The sources told Yahoo Sports there could be as many as 10 teams interested in making titanic pitches to Suh. That number includes Suh’s current team, the Lions, which still has the option of restructuring some contracts and retaining the four-time All-Pro via the franchise tag. At a price of $26.7 million for 2015, the weight of that one-year contract would be potentially crippling to the franchise, but the three sources said Detroit is keeping the option on the table. Head coach Jim Caldwell nearly admitted as much Monday, emphasizing that retaining Suh was a top priority for the franchise.
Among those in play, the sources said, if Suh hits the open market? The Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders – the three teams expected to have the most cash to spend in free agency. The New York Jets were also expected to show interest, although talent procurement plans now appear to be in limbo with the general manager and head coach spots both open. The Falcons were also named as a team that is expected to be interested, although that could also be in flux with the lack of a head coach and some lingering questions about whether owner Arthur Blank would insist to any hire that general manager Thomas Dimitroff stay in place.

Austin Howard was a + guard the second we had a RB that didn't try and climb his spine every carry. He's a slow dude that would have trouble with the end rushers in our division. I'd rather kick Gabe Jackson out to tackle before I give Howard another crack there. For all the 'love' he got as a tackle for the Jets, he always graded out negatively. And inconsistent - one good game, one bad.. he never strung 3 + games together, ever. He had 5 for us as a guard once Murray was playing.. I wouldn't mess with that momentum. Especially considering our contract faux pas with him.

what do you have on Rodney Hudson from PFF? He might be a good place to look when it comes to Center.
Doug Free if we keep Howard at G?
Bryan Bulaga? He's worth taking a look because they'll most likely tag Randall Cobb which means we have room for an overpay and steal here. He's young enough for it.
Mike Iupati if we kick Howard back out to T?
I like the Mason Foster look for a potential ILB
I wonder how much Rey Mauluga will go for. That team will probably tag Jermaine Gresham. So Mauluga can probably be had.
I've been big on bringing Suh back…but I know my eyes are bigger than my stomach here.
There's so many solid additions we can make here that can make this team solid in a short amount of time.
I'd rather focus on staying financially responsible. Lord willing we'll have to re-up on Carr and Mack at some point and we'll have the flexibility to do it.

http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2015/1/1 ... ive-tacklealso. Look at how Nick Fairley graded out over the years. Just scroll down to the 2011 draftees.
I'd say he's worth a look from us and he wouldn't cost nearly as much as Suh who is going to chase Gerald McCoy money.
edit:
Also very interesting to see McCoy consistently grade out better than Suh. Last year was the only year he didn't and the difference seems negligible.

Yes, McCoy has consistently graded out higher than Suh. I'd consider him better, its just unfortunate Tampa has 2 elite players on D (Lavonte David as the 2nd) and no help anywhere else.
Fairley is interesting, but can only see him leaving Detroit if Suh doesnt. But more interesting IMO was the blogs breakdown, showing that OL are far more valuable than DTs. I agree with that, unless you are getting an elite DT (which Suh/McCoy are but Fairley is not).
But since we have all this cap, I do hope we pluck one of the 2 to pair with Jelly. I'm still holding out faint hope that we can move Ninja Assassin to end, or make him a situational pass rushing DT

After looking at the draft, I'm hoping we're using our FA bucks to address safety and OL positions. And then also TE.
Iupati, Hudson, Free, Bulaga... we should be making big offers there. Ditto Sergio Brown, Rahim Moore, Devin McCourty. Moderate offers for Virgil, Cameron, Niles Paul. Almost any of the top 10 FA TEs would be a massive upgrade of Rivera IMO. I feel like our other big needs - DE/WR/ILB - can be addressed via the draft.

I'd throw Bulaga a ton of money…Iupati less so.
Isn't Hudson asking for like top dollar as a C…like 7-8 mill?
yikes. Makes me not wanna look at him anymore.

I don't really mind how expensive these guys are, provided we leave ourselves wiggle-room to get out of it if they disappoint. Frontloading these deals would make a lot of sense.
Don't really care what Hudson's asking for.. pay it. Elite center. Maybe 2 or 3 in the league, and having a good one makes a difference. Personally I'll be disappointed if we don't use 15-20m, THIS YEAR, on OL. Frontload them in the first 2 years, leaving a lot of room for re-structuring in year 3 if their performance slips. We have all this money and margin for error - use it! If it means missing on a guy or two to ensure we land some high quality players, it's worth it. Not every FA is a hit.

Iupati, Julius Thomas, Suh, Cobb. I don't rate any MLBs as worthy of throwing money at so we'll have to draft one.

Haven't been here in a while but hey #raidernation! lol
First off, tiny analysis from a gamblers perspective and numbers from various sources. These numbers will seem different because they're adjusted:
Offense:
- We have a huge deficiency, obviously, but looking at statistics
- 29th in pass offense, avg 5.68 yards/att
- 28th in run offense, avg 3.61 ypc.
Our offensive line didn't give up too many sacks actually ranked 5th only giving up 4.02 sacks per 100 pass atts, but doesn't take into account # of hurries, forced out of pocket, etc. We need to up our run offense, i think Latavius Murray can be a stud but with shady going to the bills, room to swoop Spiller?
Defense:
- 20th Pass defense, giving up 6.48 yards/att .... i think we got beat over the top A LOT
- 32nd Sack rate, 3.8 sacks/100 atts.... this needs to get addressed
- 10th Run Defense, giving up 3.99 yards/carry
Defensively, the Run D improved at the halfway mark of the season, should get better as i think we did well controlling the inside run. Our pass defense is just turble, esp since our pass rush is terrible.
With all that said: Players/Position Consideration?
1) [DT] Suh
2) [FS] McCourty or [FS] Rahim Moore
3) [LG] Laputi or [LT] Bulaga
4) [RB] CJ Spiller
5) [TE] Julius Thomas
6) [WR] Cobb
Key factor(s):
- Who do we REALLY want in the draft? I want Cooper, but maybe pursuit Cobb so we have a set player then draft Randy Gregory to set the edge/take care of our edge rush?
- Any word on Wisniewski? Why is he not already signed?
MY ideal situation:
Suh, Cobb, Spiller, Rahim Moore, Laputi, Draft Randy Gregory.

Why do people like Orange Julius so much? He's injury prone, mostly a red-zone guy, and wants to be paid like Jimmy Graham. I'd take Jermaine Gresham over him considering their respective costs. Agree on MLB, though there are a few cut candidates who are worth monitoring. No matter what, whoever we acquire will be a sizeable upgrade on Miles Burris.

Wiz isn’t very good. Benefits a lot from his namesake, as he sure isn’t mauling people or opening interior running lanes. As Murray emerged and Austin Howard awoke from his year-long slumber, Wiz struggled. There’s a lack of rapport with Carr, as the delay penalties show. He’s replaceable, and if he wanted a payday, he sure wasn’t getting it from us. If he chose the McFadden route of a prove-it deal, I’m sure he would be resigned.
Spiller passed on 4.5m a season with Buffalo, I doubt we’re paying more than that for a RB. We’re looking for passing backs, not 2 down backs like Spiller. I expect Helu and Vereen to be on our radar, but I wouldn’t expect a legitimate pursuit unless they are bargains.
Love the idea of Iupati. Or any LG, frankly. Gabe Jackson mauls more like a RG, and a LG needs to be more athletic and quick.
See above for what I think of Orange Julius. He’s the one high end FA that I hope we stay away from. Low impact player who’s benefit a ton from a stud QB.
Also, big time no on Randy Gregory. He weighs less than a lot of safeties. He does have the ability to add weight, but at this stage, that makes him a long-term project. We don’t need a guy like that, we need to add players able to contribute right now. Plus Gregory (and Shane Ray, while we’re at it) are so 1-dimensional that I’d shy away from either in the 1st round of a loaded draft. Guys like the WR duo of White/Cooper, Dante Fowler, and Leonard Williams should make up our draft board at 4. But hopefully we trade down anyways.

What route would you guys choose to improve on this year?
With the hiring of Del Rio, i would assume we would pursuit a more defensive upgrade, with a couple upgrades to maybe the OLINE/WRs. I think Suh and either McCourty/Moore would most likely be the top 2 targets, followed by Laputi, draft White/Cooper.
After reading up on gregory some more... yea i agree with ya. lol

Our fan base is blood thirsty for a top receiver.
Their new QB of the future needs "weapons".
Receiver can be solved later or in FA to me.
and it is…looks like Reggie is offering Randall Cobb.
Brady and Rodgers don't need a top 5 receiver….and someone is gonna say, Carr isn't Brady or Rodgers.
Fine. Russell Wilson doesn't need top 5 receiver.
Look at the winners and what they do. The Best QBs that win don't need it. The not so best QBs that win don't need them. Somehow our fan base will crucify Reggie if he doesnt get Kevin White.
I'd like Fowler or trade down and take a tackle….Peat is 21, athletic as hell and can be groomed.
But we don't dominate at any of the lines….and our fans are talking skill positions. It's criminal to me that the casual fan will be pleased and appeased watching Carr make highlights with Kevin White while we're losing in other important areas on the field and more than likely losing games..again.

Mike Silver reporting that we PLAN on hosting Suh next week. Great news, but does he plan on coming? Unsure as of yet. Right now, Miami appears to be the favorite, inexplicably. Joe Philbin is a terrible coach.
Adam Schefter saying we're prioritizing Cobb and Thomas over Suh, too. That would be a terrible mistake.

As seen here, fans will crucify Reggie for anything. I'm not too against drafting a WR at 4, because that is an extremely valuable weapon. But if we do, I hope we make some pushes for defensive players with our money. McCourty, Rahim Moore, Suh, McPhee.. and we definitely need a legitimate MLB. 9ers, FWIW, have 3 legitimate players who could succeed at the helm of a 4-3. Playing one of them outside would be a waste.. Wilhoite already on the trade block, and one of Bowman/Willis/Borland should be as well eventually
