Profootballfocus Premium ratings can only tell you so much. I'd like to see Dyer with the first string oline for a series on Sat.

Thoughts on the first half so far...
>Mack still showing that push due to power and inside rush moves.
>Ray Armstrong making better adjustments, Allen and Lofton making good reads.
>Charles Johnson consistently plays making plays whenever he is matched up on Hayden.
>Reece is active early, 2 catches and several snaps.
>Murray looks good behind the oline. Decent gains.
>Asante down. Could be stringer, shoulder, concussion, neck or back. we'll see...
>Carr's deep ball looks on point. One to Coop was money and other to Roberts should have been caught.

One of the complaints on Carr last year was accuracy with his deep ball.
Looked good tonight.

The vikings announcer team is driving me crazy. Such homers. It's to be expected but hard to key into Raider players making plays with these juggle heads stroking the Minny faithful.

After watching 1st half
- that 2nd drive was poetry. Murray is legit, OL looks great. Webb and Menelik are really flourishing
- Hayden made mental mistakes out there.. Detailed in other thread. But disappointing because you'd expect in year 3 that there would be less of those. The TD looked bad but after watching it a few times, damn, beautiful pass. DJ had his shadow but just didnt turn
- no pass rush except Mack, again. Tuck is not looking good, Big Dan is not getting at the QB at all
- very unimpressed with Ray Ray. We may have a lot of problems at Will backer. Sio isnt healthy and might not be, Ray Ray isnt good. Wonder if Shirley can take the role?
- Neiko Thorpe made the exact same mistakes DJ did, Carrie also backed off too much once
- Lofton not looking impressive either. Heeney might be needed sooner over later
- Taiwan killed our 1st drive. Our returner situation is dire.

Yeah that was a weird game, it was pretty much a wrap by the middle of the second quarter.
IDK if I blame Taiwan for the second drive start, it was just a great punt, good bounce for the Vikings. If the ball is coming down that far inside the 20 you get out of the way and let it bounce into the end zone. Try to field it there and at best you have bad field position, at worse you don't field it cleanly or get drilled and cough it up. Sometimes the best decision is to get out of the way.

On the 12? Nah, you pick that one up. Especially on a short kick when the punter is definitely pooches it

So per PFF, looks like:
- Hayden got beat up pretty bad by Charles Johnson (true, -2.3) and guarded CPatt well (+0.4). But considering he only played 31 snaps and CBs grades aren't usually heavy (they usually fall between +2 to -2), having him graded out as a -1.9 that fast is damning
- they believe the backup OL (Feliciano, Bergstrom, Howard, McCants 1.0, Mady 0.7) had more to do with our running success than Michael Dyer. They do agree that Trent Richardson blows ass and its hard to disagree at this point.
- on our OL, they believe Feliciano is a mauler of a run blocker. He's now at +3.8 in 64 snaps this preseason. Our best pass blockers have been Penn and Menelik (+1.4) both logging 46 snaps. Penn has been abysmal at run blocking though (-3.8)
- they think Michael Dyer is a lousy pass blocker (-0.7 in 4 plays) and that Taiwan Jones should be our 3rd string running back
- they have Ben Heeney as a force, despite missing 2 tackles already (11 tackles made though) including 7(!!!) individual stops. Stops, BTW, per PFF, are tackles made essentially without the assistance of another player, be it by knocking someone off balance or by pushing other players into the carrier. 7 in 2 games is practically unheard of, esp. in only 63 snaps
- others who they believe should make the team based on preseason: Ras I Dowling (DB), Leon Orr (DT), Shelby Harris (DE), Josh Shirley (OLB), Brice Butler (WR),
- and players who are possibly on the bubble with low grades: Brandian Ross (S), Lumpkin (DT), Mayowa (DE/OLB), Dyer (RB), Bergstrom (G/C), T-Pain (RB)

I think you're in too deep with PFF. Yes, it is definitely interesting to breakdown game and player stats but it is only part of the story. Especially when talking about who is on the bubble and who isn't. Look at the top rated RB this preseason, Zack Zenner of the DET Lions. He might not even make the final roster. Gotta be careful...

I believe they are ratings done by experts without blinders, and that I correctly qualified what I wrote if you read it. I wrote about players who are reportedly on the roster bubble (via twitter, reports, common sense) that also have bad grades.

Doesn't change the fact that they only tell part of the story when it has to do with whether a player stays on the roster or not or is on the bubble. Just saying you have to be careful...
