COULD TERRELL OWENS WIND UP IN OAKLAND?
Posted by Aaron Wilson on February 10, 2009, 6:43 p.m.
With Dallas Cowboys controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens reportedly on thin ice in Valley Ranch, the NFL rumor mill is swirling about where Owens might wind up if Cowboys owner Jerry Jones ultimately decides to cut ties.
And the Oakland Raiders, who could use a deep threat for quarterback JaMarcus Russell, could be a potential destination for Owens if he’s looking for a new employer, according to the Contra Costa Times.
“Of course it’s a possibility,” Times beat writer Steve Corkran said Tuesday during a live chat with Raiders fans. ”Terrell Owens has Raider written all over him, and Al Davis is the kind of owner who would allow Owens to be the person he is as long as he produces in games.”
In response to a query about whether the Raider Nation might be a landing spot for cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones and quarterback Michael Vick, Corkran didn’t rule out the possibility.
“No way on Adam Jones — sorry, I refuse to refer to him by a video game character,” Corkran writes. “As for Michael Vick, that’s something that will tempt Al Davis more than people might imagine. Remember, coach Tom Cable has a history with Vick as well, and it’s not all bad. Don’t discount the possibility of Vick wearing a Raiders jersey one day, if not next season.”
In other Raiders news, Corkran reports that the final year of center Jake Grove’s contract automatically voided based on him triggering playing-time incentive clauses and he is now an unrestricted free agent.
He prediced that safety Michael Huff won’t be released and listed Ronald Curry, Terdell Sands, Kwame Harris, Cornell Green and Javon Walker as potential roster cuts prior to Feb. 27, the start of the free agent signing period.
