Polomalu Speaks, Goodell Disapointment

Post#1 » by SD2042 » Sat Oct 18, 2008 6:57 am

Polomalu spoke his mind in Thursday's yahoo article about how the NFL is turning into flag football following the recent fines against teams charged with laying hard hits on other players.

"Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu recently suggested that the NFL's new emphasis on fining players for big hits is aimed not at protecting players, but at ensuring that well-known players will be able to play — and thus that teams will earn more money. "

Now follows Commish Roger Goodell and his disapointment towards Polomalu's comments in Friday's article.

"I have a great deal of respect for him as a player, and obviously he has a right to his own views," Goodell said during an interview on WBAL-AM in Baltimore. "But to say that this is about money and not the health of our players, I think is extremely disappointing when we spend as much time as we do with active players, reviewing our rules, reviewing techniques and making sure we make the game is as safe as possible."

I saw this on espn the other morning. It seems like most of the ex football players turned analyst agree with Polomalu.

I would agree with Polomalu as well. Over the years, if certain plays happen like the game between the Raiders and the Pats a few yrs back when the Brady fumble was contested. Somehow, the refs and the NFL league would find some way to make adjustment to benefit the other team to save them from either losing the game or keep the ball in the team's possession. Players can't even grab the collars of their opponents anymore w/o gaining penalty calls. Imagine Lawrence Taylor was playing this current league today, he would wear the league out rated "R" style with the way this nonsense has been going on.
