Steelers' Harrison: Referees Should Be Fined
7th October, 2008 - 5:25 pm
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison believes that NFL referees should be fined for bad calls made on the field.

The Steelers were called for a 15-yard penalty in the fourth quarter in Sunday's victory when Harrison was called for roughing Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard.

"It was the most unbelievable penalty I've ever seen in my life," Harrison said. "If they're going to go and send me a letter saying they're going to fine me for unnecessary -whatever he called, I believe that is not a penalty. And when it comes down to it these refs should start getting fined for making bad calls."

Harrison disagrees with the official's call because Garrard was in the process of throwing when he hit him, and he pulled back as the two hit the ground so as not to drive the quarterback into the grass.

"I pulled off of him, I held myself from hitting the ground on top of him and this dude threw a flag," Harrison said. "Right as he was releasing the ball, I was hitting him. I don't see how he could call a flag on that, man, it's ridiculous."

"I didn't even take a step. As far as I'm concerned, he could have pumped the ball, and if I'd have stopped and not continued through I would have looked like a fool."

A bad case of being caught in between. Harrison's says he did one thing and the ref I guess saw another. Another reminder from the incident from the SD/Denver game from three weeks ago.

^^ Or the Saints and Vikings game on Monday night. Ed Hockalee (spelling) was the same official in this game and the Broncos/Chargers game.

Ed Hockalee(sp) gots to be on edge and sweatin bullets each time he hits the field to ref a game. You think a QB is under pressure whenever a blitz is coming down. The average ref is under pressure from both the players and the home crowds if they make a crucial call mistake.

That is true and it doesn't help Ed's cause any with him already being involved in a few controversial calls in different games that could have changed the outcome of those games.
