I went yesterday and wrote an article on the Chargers opening day at camp.
In short, the defense had a chip on their shoulder. They looked ahead of the offense and were fired up. Dwight Freeney and Brandon Flowers were consistently making plays and their energy was contagious. The star of the defense was S Marcus Gilchrist, he was everywhere. The first snap of 11-on-11 he shot off the snap like a cannon in what would have been a sack/fumble on Rivers. He was stuffing the run at the line, batting intermediate passes down and didn't allow a deep ball to the wideouts.
Rivers was throwing lasers when he got the chance to throw downfield. The O-line struggled in pass protection, forcing him to check down a lot. Donald Brown is a definite upgrade over Ronnie Brown, he has good vision. Ryan Mathews looked pedestrian, but Danny Woodhead shined. He kept bursting through holes and was wide open on every route he ran pretty much. The star of the offense was Keenan Allen. He just doesn't look like a young player.
