hey chargers fans, what do you expect from this years draft?

i think the chargers have every piece where it belongs and maybe just needs to adjust certain things, specially with the new coaching staff.

i was looking around http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sub/mockdraft.html and they have the chargers getting:
ROUND 1: WR - Dwayne Jarrett
ROUND 2: S - Aaron Rouse
ROUND 3: DT - Ryan McBean

what do you guys think/expect?

I'm fine with Jarrett in the first round. I'd go after HB Blades, ILB from Pitt in the second and John Wendling, S from Wyoming in the third.

I don't have a real set opinion. I have to say though Jarrett seems to have a lot in common with Keyshawn and Williams: USC, big, slow. That disturbs me.

I'd like a S in Round 1. Maybe Nelson will fall?(not likley) but someone like Michael Griffin, Brandon Meriweather or Eric Weedle.

WR is another option with: Ginn, Jarrett and Bowe.

I think our primary need is a speedy deep threat WR. Anyone know if McCardell is retiring?

What do you guys think of Gonzales from OSU? He is a speedy(productive) receiver that played in a big time program.

Fellow Alta Loma High alumni Eric Weddle taken by the Chargers.

But a 2nd, 3rd, 5th and a 2008 3rd to get him was a lot to give up.

Congrats on getting Weddle. He is a absolute stud. He did everything for the Runnin Utes. He was used as a RB/FB, QB, and even as a punter on top of the amazing play he puts in at CB/S.

seems like weddle was a right pick, but 4 picks, is he really that valuable?

We still have another 3rd and 5th and Turner will likely be traded for a 1st-2nd round pick next year. Weddle will compete for a starting job right away. Great trade for us IMO.

Yeah this was a great trade. Weddle is a true ball hawk and one of the top defensive players in this draft.

From chargers.com:

Position: SS

College: Utah

Height: 5-11

Weight: 200

DOB: 01/04/85

Experience: R

Acquired: Draft '07

Hometown: Alta Loma, CA

Despite all of the attention heaped upon big names like Paul Posluszny, Gaines Adams and Patrick Willis -- among others -- Weddle is the most accomplished defender in the 2007 draft. The Mountain West Conference's Defensive Player of the Year for both 2005 and 2006, Weddle has principally played cornerback and safety for the Utes. During his career, however, the versatile senior has also played quarterback, running back, punt returner, punter and held on field goals.

Weddle has been a standout throughout his career, earning conference honors of some kind each year. His senior season, however, provides a quick glimpse of his versatility. On defense, Weddle was fourth on the team in tackles, had seven interceptions, returning two for touchdowns, and had two fumble recoveries, returning another for a touchdown. On offense, he ran for five touchdowns and threw for another.

...

Playing cornerback in 2005, Weddle was matched up against Georgia Tech's Calvin Johnson in the Emerald Bowl and limited the potential top-five selection to two catches for 19 yards. Weddle, not surprisingly, won the Emerald Bowl's Defensive MVP award. Against Tulsa in this year's Armed Forces Bowl, Weddle ended the game with a clinching interception, only a minute after rushing four yards for the winning touchdown.

Nice. :D

And with the 96th pick in the draft, the San Diego Chargers select Anthony Waters, LB Clemson

Position: LB

College: Clemson

Height: 6-3

Weight: 245

DOB: 07/25/84

Experience: R

Acquired: Draft '07

Hometown: Lake View, S.C.

...

In 2005, Waters earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honorable mention as the Tigers ranked 11th in the nation in scoring defense. He led the team and ranked third in the ACC, as he produced 109 tackles (74 solos). He registered 13.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage, including 1.5 sacks and added five pressures. He also had seven pass deflections and two tackles on special teams while participating in 600 plays.

As a senior, he managed three tackles and two pressures before blowing out his knee against Florida Atlantic. He suited up for the team's final two games, but the medical staff would not clear him to return to the field, thus ending his career on the sidelines.

In 36 games at Clemson, Waters started 23 times at middle linebacker. He finished his career with 217 tackles (146 solos), adding 3.5 sacks for minus-30 yards, 22.5 stops for losses of 76 yards and 11 quarterback pressures. He caused one fumble and had seven pass break-ups while participating in 1,388 plays.

The Chargers are rounding out nicely in this draft. Got a WR, SS and LB from the first 3 picks. Man, AJ really knows what he's doing. We've been blessed with a great GM.
