FACTS

Tomlinson managed only 25 rushing yards on 17 carries in last Sunday's season opener against Chicago, but ran for one touchdown and threw for another as the Chargers beat the reigning NFC champions 14-3.

The Patriots opened the season Sunday with an impressive win over a 2006 playoff team, beating the AFC East rival New York Jets 38-14.

Tom Brady completed 22 of 28 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns, including a 51-yarder to offseason acquisition Randy Moss.

The Chargers won in their last visit to Foxborough, 41-17 on Oct. 2, 2005 - the last time New England allowed 40 points or more. Tomlinson rushed for 134 yards and two TDs in that contest, while San Diego tight end Antonio Gates caught six passes for 108 yards.

San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers struggled against the Patriots in January, completing only 14 of 32 passes for 230 yards and one interception while also losing a fumble. He was 22-for-31 for 190 yards with an interception against the Bears last week.

KEY MATCHUPS

Chargers' Coaching Staff vs. Patriots' Coaching Staff
Even though Belichick got a blow because of the videotaping scandal he might be a very very good coach. I think the Pats will be under some preassure and the Chargers CS should be very wise to what and when use what.

LT vs. Pats D
When will there be a game where LT isn't the player to lean on?

PREDICTION
Chargers 27 - 21 Patriots

Ouch that was quite brutal. Trying to look at the bright side:

We know we've got the talent, and we know that teams can struggle when getting used to a new system.

We also know this wasn't just any team we were facing. Patriots are as tough a competition as we'll face all year, so best not to panic and just realize that there's plenty of time before the playoffs start.

yeah, to be honest i was kind of expecting the chargers to lose. the pats (spying or not) are top 2, top 3 team in the nfl, so this game should just make the chargers stronger.

the schedule still looks heavy, so the chargers should let this game behind.

2 more things:

1. how many times have seau played vs. the chargers?
2. rivers needs more help from his WR.

Post the " spy' scandal.. the Pats are the worst team the chargers could play. SD needed to still come out and play hard.. but you just know that the Pats were going to have something to prove.

Rivers looked awful.. and LT getting 43 years on 18 carries didnt help either.

I am going to side with a new system and playing the Pats in foxboro ( post spy) but this team really needs to start pulling it together.

They had 2 tough teams to start the season.. ( CHI and NE) but they cant sleep on any team and that starts with GB this week.

Lets get back to form boys..
Cheers. — Mags
