Oh, wow. More power to you if you want to track all of these. I'm a pretty insane fan, and I don't expect to recognize about 70% of the names of guys who are on these lists.

Re: 2024 NFL roster cutdown
Just curious if any notables doesn't make the cut. Mike White is too good to be placed in PS and would likely be claimed. I think the Jets will re-aquire him again as 2nd string instead of holding on to questionable undrafted rookie QBs, hoping Rodgers will not get hurt.CrimsonCrew wrote:Oh, wow. Re: 2024 NFL roster cutdown
Going to focus on Niners and somewhat more significant cuts.
Brayden Willis and Cameron Latu out. That's a surprise to me. I thought Willis was pretty close to a lock, and although Latu doesn't deserve it, I figured they might give him a little more time given he was a third-round pick. What a disaster that pick was.
Danny Gray isn't a surprise, but another waste of a third-round pick. Grrrrr....

Re: 2024 NFL roster cutdown
Womack cut, while Ambry Thomas makes the 53.
Thomas has always been trash, while Womack has been a standout on special teams and has a decent nose for the ball in coverage.
Seeing as how Thomas is also hurt, and the league drastically reduced the number of IR designated to return option, I just don't get it.
I'm truly amazed why this team just can't quit Ambry Thomas.

Latu was almost as bad as Sermon/TDP but not quite. While the latter two actually got some regular seasons snaps and Latu didn't, it was quite obvious that both Sermon/Price were luxury picks at a low value position where neither of them had any remarkable skillset to bring to the table and were clearly worse than guys already on the roster at that position. At least with Latu, TE2 was WIDE open and there was a clear path to him being able to carve out a role on the team. But he, just sucked.
Regardless, yeah the 3rd round has been a very sore spot in recent years.
2019: Jalen Hurd was a complete nothing burger, primarily due to injuries.
2020: No 3rd round pick
2021: Trey Sermon was a godawful pick, and Ambry Thomas has been trash but somehow keeps sticking around
2022: Ty Davis Price was probably a worse pick than Sermon was. Danny Gray made sense and theoretically brought something different to the WR room but he just never could make anything happen.
2023: a lot to like with Ji'Ayir Brown so far and he looks to enter the season as a starter. While I didn't completely hate the Moody pick simply because of the clear role he had waiting for him he's been a massive dissapointment relative to his draft status. Cam Latu again was a completely nothing burger after a single season.
2024: Puni looks quite promising, but we'll see how much steak there is to that sizzle.
All of The Sermon/Price/Gray picks sting all the more due to the Trey Lance trade. 9ers were short on viable draft picks those years due what they gave up for Lance. While Sermon (and Thomas) were in the same draft class as Lance, it was pretty obvious that the plan was to redshirt Lance his rookie year. Which means that the 9ers really didn't have a 1st round pick for 3 consecutive years, so it was imperative to make solid picks with those early rounders in those years.... and they didn't

Re: 2024 NFL roster cutdown
On another note, Eli Mitchell being placed on season ending IR is surprising but not altogether shocking.
Good dude, and a very good player when healthy (as rare as that is.) Unfortunately, that guy seems to be constructed of gum, toilet paper, and glass.
I think we might have seen the last of Mitchell in a SF uniform.

Re: 2024 NFL roster cutdown
Didn't even know Mitchell was hurt that badly. Sucks he could never stay healthy
Mason has been really good though, Guerendo is a true wild card
Shocked we kept 7 WRs to start. Thought for sure Bell would be cut

Re: 2024 NFL roster cutdown
Why Latu was cut and who drafts a K in the 3rd round with so many good OT still available. Lynch doesn't seem to grasp depth needs due to aging.
