Sebastian Vollmer

Looks like he's available if we are willing to part with a second round pick, I truly think he's a perfect player for us, he's versatile, proven blocker, and able to play both RT and LT. If all it takes to get him is a 2nd or possibly even a third the niners would be dumb to not make an offer. It would allow us to get a luxury player like Spiller or Mays, or even possibly a top OG to make the line even better.

Him turning 26 next season is a red flag. He's a nice prospect but he's old already. The 49ers will end up drafting a RT with one of their 2 first round picks anyway.

How is 26 a red flag? he's 2-3 years older than most of the draft picks but since he's only in his second year it shows he doesnt have as much wear and tear on him. at 26 we probably have 5-7 meaningful years left on him, which is plenty of time to find a replacement. Also theres a much higher risk taking ne Anthony Davis than Vollmer. If we were drafting Bulaga or Okung then I would pass on Vollmer, but you act like Davis is a certified starter. As potentially the 4-5 OT in the draft I don't believe he will be a sure pick. If we grab vollmer he will start and will be strong for us. Since we probably only need to give up a 3rd, maybe 2nd, we can use our 1st round picks on players like Haden and Lupati. Would upgrade the defense and 100% upgrade the O line. Lupati is a top 2 if not 1 OG in the draft. it makes more sense to grab Vollmer than Davis when it comes down to it.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think a 2nd round pick is high for a guy that the Patriots won't even start this year most likely. A 3rd or a 4th rounder would be decent for him. 49ers could always use extra O-Line help. After watching some Pats games this year on TV, Vollmer looked solid in pass coverage which would definitely be helpful for Alex Smith.

He wasn't a starter last year, and I don't want to give up a second unless we're getting a really solid starter.
