The San Francisco 49ers announced they have released Jimmy Raye from the coaching staff. Mike Johnson will assume the role of offensive coordinator after having been named quarterbacks coach in 2009. Offensive assistant Jason Michael will now take over as quarterbacks coach.

Head coach Mike Singletary will be made available to the media today at 11:45am PT in the defensive meeting room of the 49ers Santa Clara practice facility.

The press conference can be seen live on 49ers.com.

Shuld be interesting if we actually show any improvement now, whether it was actually Raye's fault or if its Singletary, or even just the teams' overall inability

Well, I think Raye was the obvious fall guy re: the cohesion issue...stuff like Week One shouldn't be happening at the NFL level, and that was pretty clearly on him.

But last week that seemed less of an issue, and it seemed more like the plays were easy to predict and prevent, and the players were just not executing, and I don't know if that's Singletary, Raye, both, neither, or what.

The other thing is, even if this change leads to opening things up some on offense, I don't see that as a natural fit for Singletary on a long-term basis, so imo either he or an opened up offense would ultimately have to go.

I just find it odd that the obvious weakness of SIngletary's team seems to be prep and adjustment, considering that's what he was all about as a player.

Well, that and the God thing, which has always struck me as potentially problematic.

But I'd actually say we were less predictable on offense this week, Wolf. Not really any more successful, but today was more about execution than calling, in my book. Smith made some really dumb decisions and/or wasn't making the same reads or running the same plays as his receivers in some important moments.
