This took me some time but I am becoming a bigger fan of our draft.
It's already been said but WR was definitely still a need. Even if Moss is great he is only signed for 1 year right now. Ginn is a returner and not much else. Jenkins adds some definite speed. Only criticism I've heard of him is his size. Harbaugh loved what he saw on tape in game situations.
James is a quality back and that is still a need. We need really good depth at this position to keep Gore going at the end of the year. James gives us different options. Also, he torched Harbs Stanford teams in college so this may be the classic if you can't beat em join em scenario.
I loved our trade in the third. We have a lot of late round picks next year to work with. That will be great because if we have the year we all want to have then it gives us some leverage to move up and get quality players earlier in rounds and if we don't then it gives us depth options. Actually no matter what kind of year we have we can utilize those options.
Looney could be a bit of a steal and Cam Johnson could be as well.
OL was obviously a need but maybe not as big as we all believe. Kilgore is still on the roster and might have developed nicely. Looney and Slowey could at least compete.

Because there were higher rated WRs still available...
But go ahead and use all the eye roll smilies you want if you think that makes you really smart

Jenkins had the best grade on the Niners board. I don't think they care what anyone else says. Also supposedly there were other teams who were going to try and get him in the early 2nd ahead odd the other receivers.

I think arguing that there were higher rated receivers on the roster is a bit pointless. At the end of the first round it is hard to truly justify a difference between say a player like Jenkins and Hill, or Quick, or Randle. All of those receivers have flaws or limitations which is why they fell to the end of the first. Jenkins provides a need that we don't have in the deep ball.
Our first two picks make sense to me now. We need to score on offense and our best way to do that with Alex Smith isn't to sustain drives but to be able to score on one play from anywhere on the field. Sure we have crowded receiving and running back corps but we still needed help on both.
My only reservation is that we did not grab a guard sooner. But we got some guards who can compete for the starting position and our coaches must have seen something in Kilgore or someone to believe they could wait. If we can solidify our right side of our offensive line than the picks of jenkins and james should really help our offense which was our weaker side.
