Not sure if you mean for regular Bay Area news (not in the Bay so I don't care about the news there) but Matt Barrows blog is still free.

There was a subscription service thing popping up a few days ago for the blog but it seems they've removed it.
Smart move as I'm sure people only went on the site solely for Barrow's blog and nobody was going to pay for it especially with tons of other places to get information for free. They would've lost far more on the lost of hits than they would've gained from subs.
