Power Rankings
Figured we could start a thread. My favorite to date has got to be NFL.com:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... ncos-reign
7th. Behind the Eagles. Now, I'll admit the D scares me a little bit, and I don't have a ton of faith in the offense making the jump to elite, but I can see this team getting a chip on their shoulder and coming out and playing like they did in 2011. I'd love to see it.

I'm hoping that as well I really believe this team and staff coach better when we are perceived as underdogs. I think Harabaugh and Co can preach the no one believes in us rah rah speech much better then we are supposed to win so go win speech. But I am loving the 49ers are best a Wild Card team and or won't make the playoffs rhetoric being spewed by the talking heads of late.

Re: Power Rankings
Media types are putting way too much stock into a handful of preseason series'.
We have plenty of regular season evidence that Kap is fully capable of connecting with Crabs, Davis, and Boldin. The question has always been is if Kap could be consistently great and get the playmakers the ball.
We're more talented overall on offense and I thought Kap did show some good things like going through progressions and hitting checkdown guys in the preseason.
It might be a bit of a bumpy ride early in the season but I have little doubt the offense will be better than it was last season.
Defensively like the offense it might be bumpy early on but I still feel our losses on defense are being overrated.
The secondary might actually wind up being the best secondary we've had under Harbaugh.
Brock is clearly better than Brown and Rogers and Culliver at least physically could be an upgrade over those two as well.
Bethea I see as an upgrade in coverage with far less 15 yard penalties over Whitner and Reid will better based on experience alone.
Ward will have typical rookie struggles but I have more faith in him being able to cover Harvin, Austin, Cooks, and Welker than Rogers who I know can't cover those guys and he's a better ballhawk than Rogers as well.
The front 7 is a concern but Williams looks like he'll be able to lessen the blow of losing Dorsey. J Smith is healthy.
Skuta and Lemonier filled in well for A Smith last season and might even be better with Skuta being healthy and Lemonier having a season under his belt.
The depth along the D line is actually the best it's ever been so an actual rotation is feasible this season.
And Bowman's loss hurts but he'll be back this season and Wilhoite didn't do half bad when Willis was out so he's not Bowman but as long as we have one All-Pro guy out there Wilhoite should be able to hold the fort down.
Call me crazy but I'm pretty optimistic about this team and even moreso with so many people down on them as that should put a chip on their shoulder

Re: Power Rankings
We've just got to survive the early part of the season. We could actually enter the playoffs incredibly hot as we get three starters back on D. Got to make the playoffs first, though. Hopefully the offense shows growth. The talent is there for it to easily be a top-10 unit. Not sure that coaching/will is, though.

Re: Power Rankings
Power rankins don't suit up and play games. They are based in part on what happened last year. Lets see what happens after play starts. Still have some concerns about the team, Hopefully can avoid more injuries and things will get better as season goes on.

Re: Power Rankings
It is clear we'll need our young players to step up. That said, I think Baalke has done a nice job over the past two years of the draft, and hopefully we have the guys to do it. It should be an interesting season. Lots more pressure on Kap's shoulders, most likely, as the D could struggle early on.

Re: Power Rankings
The ratings are pretty respectable considering that a number of people (to my memory the list includes Michael Irvin, Herm Edwards, and Kurt Warner and possibly more) stating that the 49ers will miss the playoffs this season.
There's some jokes floating around about how the niners are old and past their prime, but I did some simple research and found this:
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/red_ ... ldest.html
The Niners were one of the oldest teams in the NFL last season but are actually now out of the top 10 in terms of oldest teams in the league. The average age of the team is only 0.7 more than the Seahawks.

I think it'll come down to being more on Kaep than the coaching. We'll be a top-10 unit only if Kaep can get us there. He's gotta learn to scan the field better and be more decisive with the football.

I agree but I do believe the coaching side of things could help him some more.
I always thought our short passing game could use some work and it seems like we run a lot of long slow developing pass plays.
On the positive side it seems like the coaches are going to get the RB more involved to give Kap a better checkdown option. Which is a good thing because LMJ would be better used in a passing game to get him some space and not just ran up the gut and guys like Hyde and even Lattimore (for the future) are good options in the passing game.
But all in all it does come down to Kap. If he can make quick and quality decisions with the ball I see everything else falling into place. Most of his issues like accuracy to me stem from him not being 100% sure of what he's seeing and doing with the ball.

These were terrible enough that I had to laugh and post them.
PFT has really gone downhill fast and it feels like it's just a bunch of guys who are bent they weren't "real" journalists like political ones and had to settle for sports journalism.

That cat from NFL.com is the same guy who said SF would lose to Dallas, so he's just butt hurt and trying to keep his story straight after he was shown to be an idiot. He's repping the "Niners will be terrible" bandwagon.
He must have gotten whooped by Niners fans as a kid.

Hating on the niners is the cool thing to do nowadays.
