Re: Bleacher report, 49ers offense
The problems run on our offense run deeper though.
Play calling and scheme is part of the problem but even a perfectly called game wouldn't fix the putrid pass blocking and the okish run blocking of the offensive line.
The offensive line's struggle is really the corp of our offensive struggles.
Play calling and scheme most definitely can be better and I do think we should run the ball more but I think people tend to forget what happened last season when we couldn't effectively be a threat to pass the ball. Teams with quality defensive lines stuff the run and it's just running Gore into a brick wall.
So that's why I'm of the opinion that the offensive line is our primary problem because when we need to pass the ball they haven't really answered the bell aside from a great performance against Rams in the Monday nighter which is why it wasn't an accident Kap arguably had his best day as a QB.
In regard to Roman and our offense I just think defenses have it figured out. All the formations and different personnel groups aren't confusing and defenses like it did in 2011 and 2012. Now they know that all of that is window dressing and they just have to focus on certain keys that will tip the play.
At the end of the day Roman is great at the running attack but average at best when it comes to the passing attack. At this point we can see why he was just the run game coordinator at Stanford.

i think a big problem is Kaepernick. he's just not running enough these days. i expect him to be more aggressive as the season goes on though as i assume he's been listening to coaches to play it safe before the playoffs

Roman really does need to go. This game against the Saints he seemed to be channeling Jimmy Raye: no imagination, no misdirection, zero creativity. Run when they expect run, pass when they expect pass, see a massive blitz coming ignore it and hope for the best. This great defense is being wasted by the failure to get much out of the talent on offense.
