TIME TO PLAY YOUNGSTERS
At 1-4 and with the playoffs all but a pipe dream, it may now be as good a time as any to see what the young players can do, especially with tough games coming up after the Ravens game. The one thing that really is a head scratcher for me is the lack of playing time Bruce Ellington has had. I know he's missed two games because of injuries, but he's played just SEVEN snaps all season. And only two snaps against the Giants last week. The kid has really good potential and needs to be used a lot more. Slot, reverses, running, etc....Also, it may be time to get Arik Armstead more playing time at the expense of Dorsey. IMO, he has been our best pass rusher from the DL position and right now we are getting no pressure up the middle. Dorsey is a natural NT, as is Ian Williams, and Dial played the NT some last season too. The point I am making is that NTs typically are not good pass rushers and we have 3 on the starting DL - Dial may not be a natural NT, but he's still more of a run stopper, and a solid one at that. So I would really like to see more Armstead as well as Pucillo who had a solid preseason. Tank has not shown much this season and is a liability in the running game. Baalke definitely reached for him. The player I was hoping he'd draft in 2013 was Kawann Short who went to the Panthers. Short has been a solid player in both run d and in rushing. And obviously the signing of Darnell Dockett didnt work out either. So more pass rush is needed from the DL.

Next week we'll talk about this W or L. I really want to see Smelter get a run and Jerome Simpson will finally come off suspension.

Yes. Get them all some playing time. Although Simpson is a vet, so we already know a little bit about him.

Re: TIME TO PLAY YOUNGSTERS
I think at this point we are playing most of the young players. The CBs are babies, Ward and Tartt are playing a lot, Lynch and Harold are getting lots of snaps at OLB, Marcus Martin and Devey are young guys, Hyde is young, our #3 and #4 WRs are young. We're playing a lot of guys in their first three years.

Oh, and the TEs who are currently playing are all fairly young, too.

And the team has been competitive since Tiller being put on the OL.
No one wants to admit it, but the future is looking bright.

Re: TIME TO PLAY YOUNGSTERS
At this point it seems like Tank and Armstead should be taking the majority of snaps in a rotation in place of Dorsey; should probably just try and trade Dorsey. Brandon Thomas should get some run at LG with Boone moved to RT.
