Jason Cole report

A number of players texted him after the Rams game saying Kaepernick should be benched.

Clear his head? How about clearing out his locker oh wait that is Tomsula's job. The building is so much cleaner now that Tomsula is chipping in and cleaning up after players. Gotta right that wrong environment Harb had going. Makes a huge difference in the win column.

I think we can all safely assume that those players are Smith and Davis, right?

To be fair, Jed only talked about winning with class, he never promised the 49ers would lose with class.

So basically Cole is saying that VD and Smith (or maybe Patton) don't watch any game film during the week, since if they actually watched any tape (from week 2 on) they would have seen that, while Kaepernick has played poorly, the pass blocking is just as atrocious as his play (if not more so). When Kaep has had time in the pocket this season he has dropped a couple very accurate passes right in the bread baskets of Boldin and Smith for big yardage.

The Niners would have a better chance at being competitive by lining up Kaepernick in shotgun 40+ times and going full spread offense than they will after throwing Kaepernick under the bus and benching him for an already shell shocked Gabbert.

Seriously, what type of prima donna-ish "I don't know dick about football even though I play the game" jackass player could legitimately think Gabbert solves anything? That's like saying the savior is Tim Rattay, or Troy Smith, or David Carr. The only aspect of the Niners Gabbert will improve is how hard SF tanks the season in hopes of grabbing Jared Goff.

Yes, I don't understand when anyone recommends a quarterback to sit for a few games to get better. If we were going to go with somebody who needed to clear his head from the pressure, one could argue Gabbert had so much pressure when he played and now since he hasn't played, he has cleared his head. I'm not saying Gabbert is Kaepernick or better, I'm just saying that clearing one's head doesn't make sense. Benching if someone behind him is better or has more upside, sure.

I mean, someone on Hoopla had suggested that it was best for Alex Smith to stay here on the bench or sign somewhere else on the bench for his prospects of being a great backup. He then said that he was looking out for Smith as a fan of his and believed he could do it if he sat for awhile. I told him that was stupid. If you can start, go to good team and start. The only good sitting could do would be if it let him run out his contract (or get released) and then sign somewhere else rather than go to a bad team. ( I don't think we would've gone back to Smith if Kaepernick fell.)

@RapSheet: The #49ers are benching QB Colin Kaepernick, I'm told. He has been informed. Blaine Gabbert is the starter.

@Kyle_McLorgBASG: Source: 49ers were going to do this last week, but decided to wait so that Gabbert could debut against a weak Falcons defense at home.
