I hate that the title of the thread was changed. I would never start a Blane deserves his own thread thread.

He would've wanted out if Tomsula was still around but with Chip as coach the best move for his career is to stick around.
Chip has the most potential to maximize his talent and he'll make the most money remaining a 9er.
He might have no love for the front office but his like or dislike for them isn't important and it's a simple mater if he performs he'll stick around and if he sucks again he'll be gone.
I'd be surprised if he isn't on the roster next season but the difference will be is he'll have to earn his job and the team won't build or count on him going forward unless he has a great season.
Rather see Gabbert's potential maximized. Kaepernick needs a fortified wall to be a good passer. Just have my doubts even with Anthony Davis, that our OL will be that good again.

Gabbert may very well still get his opportunity because while I feel Kap will be on the roster I doubt they'll just hand him the job from the get go like they did this past season and he'll have to earn the starting spot.
Kap is an elite athlete and he's right up there with Cam in terms of just pure athletic ability so I just can't see Chip passing on that without at least trying to fix him for a season.
Kap's ceiling in Chip's offense is just higher than Gabbet's so in the ultimate perfect scenario Kap starts and Chip has him playing like it's 2012 and not 2015.
But I don't think Chip would hesitate to put Gabbert as a starter if he's the better option. He's athletic enough to operate Chip's offense effectively so he would be a viable starter as well until you develop a better option.

Here's the deal. Kaepernick is due astronomical amounts of money over the next few years. Unless he's DEFINITELY your starter, why take the chance of keeping him on the roster?

He's a 16 million cap hit this year which is a lot but not astronomical in terms of QB money.
His contract is structured in a way where it's basically year to year so there is no long term commitment to him. If he's still a flop in 2016 they could very easily cut him before April 1st in 2017 with no issues.
And the team has so much cap space this year his contract shouldn't interfere with the team being able to sign whoever they want in free agency.
At worst he still sucks and you go with Gabbert like what would've happened anyways. Or maybe he plays well enough he becomes a tradeable asset and you get some draft picks for him. And at best Chip maximizes his potential and Kap is back in the conversation of being a franchise QB.
Basically the only negative on keeping him on the roster is hurting the York's bank account so there is little reason to at least not see if Chip can do anything with him.
