Why is he not playing?
Sure, he's struggling, but the team is better with him out there. And he isn't going to get out of his funk by watching Angel Pagan be nothing more than mediocre.
I heard on the radio a few days ago that Pie is going to re work his swing in the off-season. I just love how dumb this organization is sometimes. Send him down or play him everyday. Make up your damn minds though.
He's not going to fix his swing by sitting on the bench and only hitting in batting practice.
The only time you will hear me bash Lou is how he has handled some of the rookies this year. Pie especially.
He got thrown into the fire hitting lead-off during his first call up which wasn't a good idea. Then Lou messed around and played Jones in CF and sat Pie on the bench and didn't really give him a fair shot. Then sent him back down.. Yeah, that made sense. I hate the idea of bringing up position players just to send them back down a few weeks later.
Fast forward to his next call up. He comes up swinging a hot bat and continues that for a week or so. Hitting Pie in the #2 spot was ridiculously dumb idea IMO. It looked nice on paper with the speed, but it was far from ideal. He is a free swinger and having him take pitches and be extra patient just so Soriano could potentially steal a base was dumb. Because Soriano wasn't & still isn't stealing bases. Pie has shown he's not a real good 2 strike hitter and instantly putting him in a hole wasn't good for him.
Anyone notice Fontenot cold streak? Yeah, Lou moved him out of the #2 spot and he's gone hitless I believe something like 0/14. I still don't understand that move even though Theriot has been good.
With that said I think Pie being more patient now will make him better in the long run. I think Pie will start hitting again very shortly - He just needs to get some at bats and coming in as a defensive replacement late in games isn't going to do it.
Pie in Lou's doghouse? (Pie rant)

I hope not, or else my opinion of him will be a little lower. If Soriano is willing to hit in the middle of the lineup and Lou just won't do it, that's a terrible call. With Lee's possibly permenant power outage (now that's a phrase!), the heart of our order really isn't intimidating anymore. Either move him down or get someone else who can hit HR's to put next to A-Ram.
