If only Blaine Gabbert had a younger brother named Derek we could draft.

He does have a younger brother but he didn't do anything lol. My fiancee's brother actually played baseball growing up with Blaine.

But very little pass rush so Newton just waited for his big WRs to get in position to make big contested catches time after time. Ward had no passes defended. He was there but Benjamin made big catches on him. This could be a trend in the league for now, like the Jets with their big physical WRs including the rookie.

He really didn't have to read coverage. He had enough time on several big plays to pick out single coverage on Benjamin and have him win on the catch. Benjamin didn't clock well but he doesn't have to separate much, he can just play like a power forward, blocking out smaller CBs with his body and making the catch.

We had hopes that the front 7 would be better but it can't generate a pass rush and today, couldn't stop Fozzy Whitaker, though of course Newton makes it tough to defend that running attack.

I don't know how many times they blitzed but right now it doesn't appear they can generate a pass rush without blitzing.

Completely agree. The pass rush was what did the defense in. The coverage was good actually. Two more games and we get Aaron Lynch back. Should be better hopefully.

The Niners will eventually have a pass rush with Armstead and Buckner and Ian Williams if he ever gets back on the field and Aaron Lynch... As much as I want Tank to pan out just not seing it. But the Panthers do have a good o line and receivers the size of small mountains. All in all the game was not as bad as the score suggests nor was the defense as bad as the stats.

The defense held up in the first half other than Bethea blowing coverage on Olsens 78 yard romp. In the second half they started getting worn down not helped at all by the three and punt scheme.
This team is better than it gets credit for and there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Just need a new gm and a good draft and a couple free agents and they will be back in the playoff discussion.

I don't know, it's early but it feels kind of like Singletary's first full year.

False hopes there, based on how the team played when he was interim HC.

I wouldn't say false hopes I think anyone objective knew this year is a rebuilding year. I honestly think it will be a 5 to 7 win season and I am good with that. The reality is the team does not have a quarterback, no real threat at wide receiver or tight end. A very young defense with some good pieces but in need of a couple more. Teams are going to focus on the run and make Gabbert beat them with his arm. If the Niners could make 8 wins this year i would call it a huge win.

Well we kept it close in the fist half and staged a nice little comeback there in the end but you can tell we still just aren't ready.

We have to take advantage of those turnovers and score touchdowns!

Not sure why but it seems we have a fumbling issue on this team? We used to be one of the best in that regards?

Gabbert is still gabbert at times and it really kills this offense.

Defense played just ok. Bad penalties and some whiffed coverage. Benjamin was ridiculous with some of those catches. Pass rush needs to be addressed badly.

On to Seattle now where we may have our best chance to beat them up there as the hawks offensive line is bad.

I could see a lot of blitzing to make Wilson move on that bad ankle

Yeah but can the secondary and the LBs cover their TEs, Baldwin, Lockett, etc?

If the DL can't dominate that OL, you have to wonder about the high picks they spent. Of course Buckner and Armstead are still young but they need to show something.

Also somewhat disappointing that Tartt hasn't beat out Bethea yet.
