I think the hope is that with Kelly running the offense and a better offensive line that Kap could at least play better than Gabbert.

For me personally it's more of a question of "why not?" Gabbert has had his chance to do something with the job and shown no sign of improving so I don't see any reason to keep putting him out there when you know he sucks. Even if Kap is just as bad or worse it's not like the team was going to really do anything on offense either with Gabbert.

I would mind at this point

Kaeptard's worst season is still better than Gabderps best.

His career QB rating is 16 points higher than Gabderps. his completion%, td/int ratio, yards, avg yard per pass etc... all better. He runs better. Gabderp may have a better brain, but he doesn't trust himself to make any of the passes. It's like watching someone repeatedly run into a wall, when the door is open next to them.

I'll take kaeptards 10% improvement.

I mean I get it...but what does that do for us? Kaep won't be here next year. There's a chance that Gabbert will be.

Yea, but we can see Gabbert isn't the answer. Our answer is playing in college somewhere right now and the question right now is whether the FO can find out who he is. So, I don't really care who is playing QB from the roster right now.

I didn't see the whole game. Had a lack of sleep the night before and fell asleep before kick off. When I woke up it was already 14-0. Saw a lot more defensive snaps and that frustrated me more than anything. The 49ers went up against a struggling Seattle offense and made them look like world beaters. And they put little pressure on that garbage Seattle oline. And it DRIVES ME CRAZY on 3rd downs when we only rush three people. They did that on 3rd and 15 and Wilson converted. The 49ers made it easy on Seattle's oline.

I agree. I don't think you will find anyone here who thinks Kap is the answer. But if the offense continues to play poorly, there isn't really anything to lose other than Kap getting hurt. If Gabbert struggles next week against Dallas, the chorus is really going to start getting loud to make a change. While struggling in Seattle isn't unexpected, to struggle against Dallas at home would be,

We aren't even seeing last year's version of Gabbert. He has regressed significantly which is odd since our oline is significantly better and one would think Kelly would have a bettter ability to game plan than the previous staff.

Speaking of Kelly...is he no longer going to run the offense we are accustomed to seeing? We aren't even close to playing at his normal pace. If this is what we have to work with then I'm curious to see what tricks he has up his sleeve. For one I would like to know why there seams to be so many route options that are consistently short of the sticks especially on third down.

I also did not expect there to be more than 3 wins in this team for this season so my expectations were very low heading in. I don't see what the point in playing Kaep is. He does not excel at the basic principals that are required by a Kelly QB. His accuracy is poor. He can't dial it back on short throws and he has not shown an ability to navigate the pocket and go through reads. He looks incredibly lighter than his normal playing weight so the likelihood he gets injured and guarantees his salary for another year is too high in my opinion.

We just have to suck as much as possible. Stack up the losses. See Baalke leave. Pray we get a GM capable of drafting on the offensive side of the ball so we can select our new QB and WR in the next draft.

And play Blair a hell of a lot more because I gotta say our dline is a joke.

I think the extra time to throw is a determinant to Gabbert instead of a benefit.

In my laymen's eyes it seems as if Gabbert is reading the field correctly but doesn't have enough confidence in his eyes or arm to pull the trigger on the throw.

It should dropback, scan field, "there it is!", and throw. For Gabbert it seems like it's dropback, scan field, "there it is maybe?", and "oh man I need to throw".

So it's like he either passes on making the hard throw in favor of an safer throw. Takes to long to decide to make the throw, hurries to make it, and is late with it or in his rush has sloppy footwork leads to poor throws. Or he sees his window, gets too excited, hurries the throw and has either sloppy footwork or is too early with the ball.

It seems like he's better with less time because it requires him to react more and think less and go with his instincts and gut.

Just watching him yesterday it doesn't ever feel like he's in a rhythm or comfortable in the pocket and I just don't know if at this point it'll ever be fixed.

I thought Gabbert regressed as the season went on last year. He did suprising well early on against some good defenses. But as the year went on he didn't play as well and had the softer part of the schedule.

I just want them to ride it out with Gabbert and at least start seeing signs of improvement with all the young guys as we progress through the season. The defense looked terrible. They were getting exploited all over the place. For a struggling regressing QB, these first three games were not very friendly. So I'm hoping he can at least show some small signs of settling in with this next game because it would be nice to keep him around as a backup, and keep Kap off the field so he doesn't get hurt and cost us a bunch of Kap space. Looks to be a long dreadful year...

Clemson's Watson and Notre Dame's Kizer are both really good quarterbacks in the Cam Newton mode (big and athletic with strong arms, good runners, hard to bring down). They're both extremely good passers, too. Watson's a bit better, at least at the moment, but Kizer's the one many think has the biggest upside.
