The RB Committee

I think there should be some research into RB committees and correlation with injury. DeAngelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart stands out in my mind because they are two players that were talented and forced to share time and constantly hurt. But Georgia too, Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb, Sony Michel...there's a lot of risk switching out RBs seemingly at random.

Minus the Saints, who I believe do it the right way by playing the hot hand, other teams seem to have a certain number of touches predetermined before the game they feel they need to give the 2nd/3rd backs in their committee. I also wouldn't consider a Lightening/Thunder duo like they have in Tennessee to be a committee. Other than last night, the two have mainly been used for specific situations. Now, if one of them gets injured next week because they want to give Henry a predetermined uptick in touches, this would be exactly what I'm correlating injuries with.

Not sure what the thinking is resting a hot running back after a scoring drive. The special teams and defense going out on the field should suffice rest-wise in normal conditions. The only people who should be concerned with wanting to cooldown your RB should be the opposing team. All the standing while on the bench after 10 minutes (in real time) of rest is when your joints begin to feel heavy, which is obviously a detriment to the team and your safety.

Just take a look around at the league, the correlation is there.
