I know people in these kinds of relationships. Even if there's a court order, they're gonna stay screwing up each others lives for as long as they possibly can, until someone actually goes to jail (and even if that happens, they'll still call), or one of them is physically not allowed to be around the other, which is hard to do with grown ups.
They don't care who else they hurt with their nonsense, because they are so self centered.
