I had hoped Blair would be a cheap rotational player at DE, and might even challenge to start at LDE. He's another one of those guys who didn't bounce back from an ACL the way you'd expect.

If we're inclined to go in the "young, talented player, but bad to date" direction, we've already got a guy like that on our roster. I'd rather keep the draft pick an cap space and go with Rosen.
I agree, I have hesitation with Darnold as well. I do think that if anyone can help him reach his potential it’s Kyle. I would be a little bit meh about giving up a 2nd rounder for him as I think a 3rd is a better value. What intrigues me is the idea of Kyle having two young first round talents on the roster and have the ability to work with them both. It also would save tons on the cap and give us the ability to spend some money. I don’t know about you but I want Von Miller and possibly Trufant.
It's an interesting idea. I wouldn't give up our second for Darnold. Maybe our third. But it only works if we cut Garoppolo and free up cap space, and that could make for a very dicey year.
Trying to develop both your #1 and #2 QB at the same time is cumbersome and usually counter-productive. Especially when both guys would be reclamation project types and are nothing but proven failures to this point. And most especially when your roster is in the conversation of being Super Bowl caliber.
If we're talking trying to develop 2 rookies simultaneously, that's a bit of a different story (I.E. RG3 & Cousins.) Still even with that, short of Frisco making the leap up the board to grab Wilson, you can't realistically expect to legitimately compete with that type of model. Even with doing that you aren't bringing in another rookie with Wilson, You are either keeping Jimmy for a year while Wilson learns, or you are bringing in a solid veteran presence to backup Wilson.
Darnold doesn't really do anything for me personally. Anything higher than a 4th rounder, makes trading for him a HARD pass for me. Even with a 4th or less, I would only bring him in as competition with Rosen to be the #2. I damn sure am not bringing him in to be the guy.

Another example of several guys who's rehab hasn't gone swimmingly for this team. The training staff definitely leaves a lot to be desired.
Can only hope Bosa doesn't follow that trend.

Gonna go ahead and guess that there are very little guarantees for the 2nd year and that 2021 cap number is lower than the 2nd round RFA tender they were projected to give him (3.38M).
UPDATE: Right after posting, team announced that they've tendered ERFA OL Daniel Brunskill ($850k) and released Ronald Blair. Blair was a scheduled FA, so it gives him a head start.
Happy to bring back E-Man, although there wasn't much doubt he'd return. I agree the 2nd year is probably more of an on paper language thing than actual outcome. We'll see.
Ideally 9ers don't have to lean on Brunskill much moving forward. He's a meh starter, but is a nice depth piece that can play multiple positions on the line. At that price he's good to have around.

49ers restructure the contract of C Weston Richburg, saving around $6.8M in cap space. It is being reported that he is leaning toward retirement.

Ian Rapoport reported earlier today that the 49ers want to get deals done for T Trent Williams and FB Kyle Juszczyk tonight. Next FA they are thought to want to keep: CB Jason Verrett.

So after a couple of seasons, they could get out from his contract with minimal cap hit?

Very glad to have Juice back; running game wouldn't be the same without him. Hoping we can work out a deal with Trent Williams.

Reports out there have the 49ers being around 20M AAV for Williams, it's unknown if other teams are willing to go higher.

That's actually a much better contract than I had expected. He took a pretty substantial pay cut, which is what we needed him to do. I'd be pretty shocked if he sees more than two or three years of it.

Rapoport: Verrett deal is for a base salary of $5.5M, with incentives that can push it to $6.5M. Had another offer on the table that was thought to be multi-year.

I am really liking both the Verrett and the Juice deals. Hopefully we can get Williams to resign
