Like what I've been seeing from Simmie Cobbs Jr. Combine will be big for him.

If I remember correctly we all watched him **** on the very talented Ohio State DBs on opening day of CFB season. First game of the season and he made a name for himself since then...

Another player who’s immensely underrated is Anthony Miller. If we didn’t already have Taylor as our slot guy I’d be calling for us to draft Miller in the 3rd or even 2nd round. He’s that talented IMO. You can line him up anywhere (slot, out wide, whatever). The kid just knows how to ball and dominate...! I think highly of his abilities, but I just don’t talk about him much because I’m more interested in snatching Kirk in the first round.

Ideally I wouldn’t want Smith in the top 10 either, but he’d make much better sense then what I’m seeing being proposed by fans, and/or witnessing during these early stages of mock drafts.

Rosters were made official today but obviously changes could still take place...

One catch on Ward but it was a TD.

Bad news on Anthony Miller. Love him but he’s out of the Senior Bowl now. Unfortunately it’s been reported he has medical red flags, specifically his foot. This is from Pauline and Brugler.

I guess the good news is we can steal him later.

More bad news is the hype on CB Mike Hughes. Kiper has him in the 20s of his mock. Damn. Was hoping he’d be on the board much longer. Brugler thinks he is a first rounder too. Ugh.

Big blow for him. If it’s a stress fracture or something closed to that, that’ll push him to day 3 status.

Jalen Ramsey was a much better prospect when he declared:

Minkah Fitzpatrick - DB - Crimson Tide

Alabama CB/S Minkah Fitzpatrick only played 13 snaps at outside CB in 2017, according to PFF.

Fitzpatrick's draft conversation might be similar to Jalen Ramsey's from a few years ago, certain evaluators considering him at corner, others at safety. The difference is Ramsey made cornerback his home, whereas Fitzpatrick mainly played safety and moved into the box or slot as a third safety. Either way, Fitzpatrick will likely be a top 10 selection.

Josh Allen - QB - Cowboys

ESPN's Mel Kiper projected Wyoming QB Josh Allen to the Browns at No. 1 overall in his first mock draft of the season.

Kiper adds he has moved Allen up to his No. 1 quarterback in his rankings, saying Allen finished the season strongest among the group. More importantly, Kiper adds all of the quarterback prospects have warts, but he tends to side with Allen due to his high ceiling. This will change over the next few months, possibly 10 times. Thankfully next week's Senior Bowl will give us a few answers.

It'd be great if Allen goes first overall. I'm pretty confident Rosen and Darnold will also go before our pick, which means more non-QB talent, and possibly a real trade market for Mayfield.

Quenton Nelson - G - Fighting Irish

Pro Football Focus's Steve Palazzolo projects the Seahawks to take Notre Dame G with the 18th pick in their latest mock draft.

Nelson has received top ten talk because of his dominant play, but as Palazzolo notes, guards notoriously fall in drafts. The Seahawks are likely hoping that trend continues, as without a 2nd or 3rd round pick, they really can't afford to trade up. PFF rated him the top guard in the country by 3.5 points, and he could slide right into the woeful Seattle offensive line.

Christian Kirk - WR - Aggies

ESPN Football Analyst Mel Kiper Jr. projects the Falcons to take Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk with the 26th pick in his latest mock draft.

This would be a fun one. As Kiper notes, the Falcons already have an elite top option in Julio Jones, so Kirk could be the "other" option that won't be double-teamed because, well, Julio. He's also a quality punt-returner who has shown the ability to be effective in the slot. After falling from 34 points a game in 2016 to 22 in 2017, the Falcons need to add some punch to the offense. Kirk could be that punch if he "falls" to this pick.

DaeSean Hamilton - WR - Nittany Lions

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline listed Penn State WR DaeSean Hamilton as one of his "winners" during East-West Shrine Game practices.

Hamilton (6'1/211) received rave reviews from virtually all publications that covered the practices, and Draft Analyst was no exception. "He ran great routes every day, separated from quicker, speedier cornerbacks and caught everything in sight, Pauline writes. "He won out for contested passes, grabbed receptions in the open field and consistently caught the ball with his hands away from his frame. He was also superb in blocking drills." There are concerns about his speed, but after showing out against the quality Washington defense and now this, his draft stock is certainly on the rise.

Baker Mayfield - QB - Sooners

In Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus's second mock draft, Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield goes to Cleveland with the first-overall pick.

Keep a couple things in mind: First, Pro Football Focus comes at this from almost a strictly analytical point of view (not that it's necessarily a bad thing). Second, and most importantly, Palazzolo's mock is based on what he would do, not necessarily what he's hearing from clubs. Still, seeing Mayfield at one is definitely interesting, but not surprising considering he was the highest rated QB (94.8) by a long shot. "Yes, the Oklahoma offense eases his burden compared to his peers," Palazzolo says, "but he’s still shown outstanding accuracy and decision-making, while making enough "NFL throws" that should instill confidence that his game will translate to the next level."

He’d be a tremendous upgrade for us than what we have in Earl Mitchell:

Vita Vea - DL - Huskies

ESPN Football Analyst Mel Kiper Jr. projects the Dallas Cowoboys to take Washington DT Vita Vea with the 19th pick.

Kiper calls Vea a "freakish talent at 6-4, 346 pounds who can be a three-down player and add an interior pass-rush presence." While we don't disagree, it's tough to see a player who possesses those kind of skills falling out of the top 15 selections. That being said, Vea has had some questions about consistent effort. If he did fall to Dallas, Cowboy fans should commence to jumping for joy.

Calvin Ridley - WR - Crimson Tide

ESPN's Mel Kiper calls Alabama WR Calvin Ridley "the best receiver in this class by a mile."

In a mock draft published Thursday, Kiper slotted Ridley No. 8 to the Bears. Ridley (6'1/188) isn't the biggest receiver, nor is he the most productive, but he did everything asked of him in Alabama's run-first offense over the past few years. Ridley posted a 63-967-5 receiving line in 2017. Most of his touches were either manufactured close to the line of scrimmage or on home-run balls when defenses cheated on an RPO and Jalen Hurts' throw wound up within Ridley's vicinity. Coming out of a poor situation to showcase all his skills, the polished Ridley may very well end up showing better in the NFL than he did in college -- Hurts just wasn't talented enough as a thrower to comfortably let Ridley run an entire route tree.

Since I have been and will continue to be all about adding more size monsters to the 49ers roster for the foreseeable future, one of my next targets I could see wanting to add is New Mexico State WR Jaleel Scott. My thoughts:

He's a junior college transfer. Very good size (listed at 6'6/215 lbs.). Uses his size well to go up and get the ball, showing the ability to track the ball and box out his man, and is good at the catch point overall. Shields the ball from the defender with his body consistently. Maybe made the catch of the year this year vs. Arizona State (not going to post it for now). What I like above all else is that he moves extremely well for his size and it is what separates him from most bigger receivers. He borders on special movement skills. Has good fakes and is better than most bigger receivers in his route running ability because of his quickness for his size. Plus production against good teams and hasn't just beat up on the little guys. Midway through the year he was leading FBS in catches 20+ yards down the field. He had 5 drops on 67 catch-able passes this year which isn't a great number. Could stand to gain some NFL weight and needs better development beating press coverage. He's one of my favorite receivers in this draft. Day 2 target if the interviews are good.

He will be at the Senior Bowl this next week. Check him out if you haven't already.

This could be good news. If he misses an opportunity to raise his draft stock, Niners might be able to get a bigger bargain.
