Ballage and Samuels impressed. I heard so much negativity about Ballage before this week. Seems like he might have disproved a lot of that.

Samuels I noticed a bunch watching all the Chubb games. Still all week NFL Network wouldn’t shut up about where he would play and kept saying H back even though he played RB all week and looked natural doing it. Oh well, whatever.

There's been some talk why Ballage, Samuels, and Wadley didn't do this or show that this week. Admittedly I did not see EVERYTHING, but it was mentioned a couple times on air, and I also noticed that the North OL played COLLECTIVELY somewhere around garbage to below average as a unit. That had something to do with them when it got to the team stuff.

As individual players went that's where each started to earn and kind of all cement their money as well IMO. It was better for them when they weren't so OL reliant I thought.

I really like Ballage's movement skills. Definitely has the height/weight/speed thing going for him. Was not overworked either and never led his team in carries if memory serves me correctly. That can be taken a lot of ways. He'd be a definite consideration with me for his MOVEMENT skills alone. A lot of the negativity around Ballage is because of the uncertainty that comes with him.

Samuels is also another candidate because of those movement skills. There's move guys every year where the main debate is, "Yeah, but where are you going to play them?" Usually after I watch them over and over I feel pretty good from afar what I think they should be doing but then you have a couple of the special move guys where it's like, "Screw it, I don't care where you play this guy. You take him and you play him where you have to regardless of who you have." Charles Clay was a move guy, for instance, that was one of those guys for me. I don't QUITE know yet if Samuels is going to be a "Screw it. You take him and play this guy" candidate but he's a tick below that for now and on the considerations list. I haven't checked him off the list yet.

It's kind of backwards thinking because I guess one should want the most talent possible available each year in the draft but it seems like I go in watching every Senior Bowl hoping I can start to eliminate some guys from consideration so the picture gets a little clearer. Well, this year I feel like I almost have more sitting at the computer and TV going over this stuff than maybe any other year I've followed the draft since 1998 (when things were WAY different then). Guys I hadn't previously thought I was going to want to add for consideration have started to pop up from all over and now it's making me want to add more projects to the list.

It'll get better just because some of the personality stuff starts to get out there in February and that checks off some guys and then you have combine stories and all that gets tied into that and people start to share notes and that helps so it'll make itself more clear this next month but I do feel like that there's more additions to my lists following the Senior Bowl than there maybe ever has been in any previous year.

Exactly. I also have faith that Kyle would use players like this in his offense too. It’s not like he had Coleman and Freeman this year haha. Get him some weapons out of the backfield.

Five QBs in the top 10? I'd love to see it, but not sure I do. Ridley, either.

He’s thinking 5 or 6 trade up to three to take a QB. 4 QBs get drafted and Colts take Nelson.

Yeah, I misread that. Four is entirely possible, though I'm not counting on it. Really hoping at least one lasts to our pick so we can try to shop the pick....

Everybody and their momma has been mocking Edwards to us.

Didn't think Edwards is a top 10, let alone 15 pick...

I understand the intangibles of him but that aside he wasn't exactly tearing it up either towards the end.

I saw him as a late 1st.

He was someone I had thoughts about too but not as our #1 pick.

The older one is the more this might make sense, or if some younger folks who are big readers and kind of know how the process works might also know this, but Edmunds' place and a reason for SOME of these more connected guys putting him as high as they are now is partly because he is and will continue to be a popular name for more of the coaching types primarily because his techniques are SO, SO good and he projects so well to multiple positions.

Coaches are often the last ones to see a lot of these guys and the last ones who become sold on a lot of these kids so that when draft people start to finally turn their attention to speaking with these coaches and the coaches also start to say, "Hey, I just saw (so and so), what do you have on him? He's really good. He does (X, Y, and Z)...." That prompts MANY of the more well connected people who write nationally to start to connect the dots with the personnel people (generally the ones with most of the power anyway) and see which one of those personnel execs and coaches might marry themselves to a specific player.

Simply put. Edmunds is going to be a guy IMO that you aren't going to have to bang the table for with a lot of coaches after they sit down and do a little bit of the coaching work on him. The techniques I mentioned with him are already so advanced for a young kid. He has good bloodlines. It's obvious even to many novices how much he can still work on himself physically, and he's already impressive there, without becoming weighed down and too bulky. And like I said he projects well to what many teams are starting to want to do. I have personal preferences where I'd like to see him but I've already started to see and hear from others who feel strongly that he's best suited to do other type of things in other defenses, and I think it's going to continue to be that way for coaches as well so he ultimately could end up in a bunch of different situations.

The biggest thing for him that you could say is lacking right now is, "Do you trust that you can get him to a point to know EXACTLY what he's looking at and will he see what you want him to see when he's on the field as quickly as you'll want him to see it?" That's why I think I told someone before that the combine interview or the pro day interview or the private workout interview will be big for him. The coach(es) that sit down with him and prod him with the instinctual stuff and feel like you have an idea what he's seeing and if you think you can improve that with him are going to be the ones that are going to take the chance on him because that's the ultimate question with him IMO.

The only other thing I could say that could ultimately drag him down before he's drafted is if there's a hidden medical issue that'll become an issue for somebody. Is there anything scary there with him that ultimately will negate the athleticism stuff with him? Beyond that, SO much of it with him is going to be sitting down with a team and figuring out the chalkboard stuff with him because if he can take to your coaching and live in a structured world, HOLY SMOKES he's going to be fun for a COACH.

I have seen 3 game of Edwards so far and all I see is a guy who can cover some TEs. He was severely underwhelming at run defense. Doesn’t get off blocks, chooses the wrong lanes to plug and has slow recognition. Reach arm tackler. Then you have guys saying he can rush the passer. He has no pass rush moves and is overpowered by tackles.

Kid is super raw and I don’t see the hype, at all. He’s getting compared to Urlacher. Shaking my head that is so absurd.

Mannn, I don’t quite hate the pick though. Tremaine is only 19 years old so he might even be scratching the surface of how good he can become. The only thing that I don’t like about him is that he doesn’t bring the thunder when he hits you. He’s more of a wrapper and drag you you down as opposed of being a thumper. I don’t mind it though because we have Foster for that.

In addition, Rueben has not gained my trust that he could stay clean therefore I would welcome the thought of double dipping in that position by also drafting Malik Jefferson. Some of you might think that’ll be an overkill on our part, but I disagree. Jefferson is another thumper—type of LB that I prefer, but the small issue is that he doesn’t possess Tremaine’s natural/innate instincts for the position (diagnosing plays developed in a milisecond like Willis used to do it for us). A linebacking corp of Foster, Edmunds, and Jefferson would be maddening!! Combine that with the DLine that we have, this would instantly propel us to a top 5 defense in 2018. The most athelic group of LB crew the league has seen since the 90s Saints: Pat Swilling, Sam Mills, and Rickey Jackson.

In this particular scenario by Zierlien’s, if picking up Malik Jefferson in round two is too much of a luxury pick, then of course my other option (perhaps my preference) would be to trade up for Christian Kirk.

Saquon Barkley - RB - Nittany Lions

104.7 FM Denver draft insider Benjamin Allbright wrote that "no one I talked to" has had Penn State RB Saquon Barkley being drafted within the first seven picks.

Allbright believes that the media has pumped up Barkley as a potential top-five pick, a slot that just isn't being backed up by the feedback he's receiving from his NFL contacts. Of course, we also heard that no team had a first-round grade on Deshaun Watson around this time last year. January scuttlebutt only holds so much weight. In his first mock draft of the evaluating season released on Tuesday, NFL Media's Lance Zierlein pegged Barkley to the Browns with the No. 4 pick (he has Cleveland taking USC QB Sam Darnold with the first selection).

There's been a lot of talk of the Niners taking him at 9 or 10. No way he lasts to the late-second.

I almost never guarantee anything, especially early, and I never say never and I almost never say for sure but I'd be fairly surprised if he's there in round 2.

As I stated in this thread the other day, I think Edmunds is probably going to be one of those guys that starts to firmly cement himself in the first once the coaches start to do the work on him and have their input with their personnel departments. He's so good in many of his techniques and has the obvious athletic ability that he just strikes me as one of those guys that will probably start to cement his status once the personnel departments join together with their coaches and get their input. Many old school coaches will like the bloodline thing going for him, too. You're already seeing him in several people's top 10s. And that's guys who are firmly established and well connected and don't put mocks out there without doing their talking around the league. And that's before he has started to do private workouts where he very well could and should shine given his athletic ability if he's prepared properly.

Reason why I wouldn't guarantee it is because could the age thing with him or could some maturity thing pop up with him that is currently unknown pop up with him? It's almost always possible. What I know about him I'm not EXPECTING that and I haven't heard anything. I don't THINK I have missed out on anything fairly well known about him as a guy but I don't always get everything well known right either no matter how educated I think I am.

So as for me I think round 2 for now is kind of pushing the unrealistic barriers barring any major mistakes he might make in the pre-draft process but we'll see.

Baker Mayfield - QB - Player

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield considers the Giants an "ideal situation."

"Throwing the ball to Engram, Shep and Odell wouldn’t be too bad," said the Heisman Trophy winner. "Being there, that’s a big-time franchise. The spotlight, I think I thrive on that. I think that would be an ideal situation." Mayfield was planning to sit down with the Giants at last week's Senior Bowl but that meeting never materialized. Eli Manning will likely remain the starter in 2018, though there's still a good chance the Giants will end up drafting a quarterback with the No. 2 pick.

I thought LB would be a good choice for us (Smith, Edmunds) but I completely forgot we have Malcolm smith coming back. 5 yr. deal, so the plan is Foster/Smith right?
I think they're going to go with James or Ward to shore up the DB's

I'm not going to get too angry over the ones that want to disagree with me on this one because it's more of a personal preference/scheme preference thing but as for ME they just need to get to the end of 2019 (2020) with him (2 more years). At that point they can get rid of him and only be left with $2.8M dead money against them.

I suppose if they REALLY wanted to go bold they could do it this year and have him eat up $8.1M (save $3.65M) with all the cap space they do have but I didn't list that first because that's almost next to 0 they go that far with it.

Isaiah Wynn - G - Bulldogs

Pro Football Focus writes that Georgia G Isaiah Wynn won 80 percent of his battles in one-on-one drills for pass protection at the Senior Bowl.

The "win" is somewhat subjective, but anyone who saw videos of the 6-foot-2, 308-pound guard in Mobile is aware of just how dominant he was. Wynn also graded as the highest-rated run blocker at the Senior Bowl, so it's pretty clear he can charge off the ball or handle interior pass-rushers. Wynn has easily worked himself into first-round consideration at this point.
