Haha! That's pretty funny. Seems odd to see Garoppolo just out shopping. Though I'm assuming this is from their NE days when he couldn't afford a personal shopper.

2019 NFL midseason award predictions: MVP race heating up

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001071130/article/2019-nfl-midseason-award-predictions-mvp-race-heating-up

Defensive Rookie of the Year

1. Nick Bosa (23 votes: Baldinger, Battista, Bergman, Bhanpuri, Blair, Brandt, Carr, Casserly, Cersosimo, Chadiha, Filice, Gbajabiamila, Hall, Hanzus, Parr, Patra, Rank, Reece, Robinson, Rosenthal, Smith, Thomas, Trotter)

2. Devin Bush (3 votes: Jones, McGinest, Tomlinson)

Bush, huh? Look, I get it. He's in the top 20 in tackles (leads rookies), has a sack, 2 INTs, and 3 PDs this season, But he's outside the top 40 in overall grade in every scouting service that I have access to.

He's outside the top 30 in every advanced run category.

He's outside the top 35 in every advanced pass/coverage category.

And he's outside the top 30 in every pass rush category (only 17 rushes).

The only site where he's among the leaders in a category is with PFF in their "defensive stops" category.

Jones, McGinest, and Tomlinson need to be drug tested. Tomlinson doesn't surprise me (awful at what he does) but Jones and definitely McGinest are better than that.

It's hard to argue spreading the votes around too much for a DROY so far this year. It's a down year as a class. I want to see what Burns does and what Simmons does now that he's back healthy enough to play. Those are the two I would expect to be there at the end who might have something to say.

Separate note: That Deandre Baker has been one of the worst players in ALL OF FOOTBALL has been a shocker to me. I really thought he had the chance to be darn good but he's gotten off to a disastrous start.

Kyle and Lynch have had success with low draft picks or UDFAs.

Bosa is the only high pick that they've hit.

John Lynch gets a lot of crap because he draft folks that others weren’t expecting or necessarily wanting. If you look back though, John has been pretty darn impressive in the draft over the last few years.

Pick 1.3 – Solomon Thomas, EDGE, Stanford - reach but he’s starting to come into his own
Pick 1.31 – Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama - great player but terrible character makes this a bad pick
Pick 3.66 – Ahkello Witherspoon, CB, Colorado - fantastic pick
Pick 3.104 – C.J. Beathard, QB, Iowa - bad because of the reach
Pick 4.121 – Joe Williams, RB, Utah - bad
Pick 5.146 – George Kittle, TE, Iowa - out of this world pick
Pick 5.177 – Trent Taylor, WR, Louisiana Tech - great pick
Pick 6.198 – D.J. Jones, DL, Ole Miss - great pick
Pick 6.202 – Pita Taumoepenu, EDGE, Utah - not great
Pick 7.229 – Adrian Colbert, CB, Miami - good pick

Pick 1.9 – Mike McGlinchey, OL, Notre Dame - excellent pick
Pick 2.44 – Dante Pettis, WR, Washington - to be continued but he needs to figure it out soon
Pick 3.70 – Fred Warner, LB, BYU - out of this world pick
Pick 3.95 – Tarvarius Moore, S, Southern Mississippi - excellent pick
Pick 4.128 – Kentavius Street, DL, NC State - not great
Pick 5.142 – D.J. Reed, CB, Kansas State - fantastic value pick
Pick 6.184 – Marcell Harris, S, Florida - meh
Pick 7.233 – Julian Taylor, DL, Temple - fantastic value pick
Pick 7.240 – Richie James, WR, Middle Tennessee - fantastic pick

I left out this years draft because the jury is still out but so far that looks like an absolutely fantastic draft class. (Bosa, Samuel, Hurd, Mitch, Greenlaw, Smith, Skule, Harris)

You don’t think they’ve hit on McGlinchey?

Great post Dub. Let’s also not forget the players (free agents or trades) rumored that he went after but didn’t end up happening. Our team would have been stacked.

However, I disagree with you on the McGlinchey pick. Great player, yes! But I don’t think you’re taking into account the players that we passed on. That could’ve been Derwin James. Can you imagine James on this defense. Also I’d rather have Christian Kirk instead of Pettis. And D.K. Metcalf has or A.J. Brown instead of Samuel. Greedy Williams at that spot would’ve suffice too.

But I see your point. DJ Jones, I said was a steal pick for us. And Lynch got it right. C.J. Beathard was not his fault. His hands were forced by Shanny. I also, think did the same with Derwin James situation. As a GM, he has to take the blame.

Have had a STs coach point out some mechanics issues that are probably the cause for the lack of distance on some of his attempts so far (he's in the 30s last I saw I believe). Possibly fixable but not guaranteed.

He’s picked at least two pro bowl caliber players and multiple starting caliber players each draft.

He got Solly wrong but was absolutely right to take a change on Foster who was an animal but couldn’t get his act together. McGlinchey was a great pick. The jury is still out on his second round WR’s so to call them misses is very premature.

Well he avoided taking Trubitsky.

Talk about missing a disaster.

If you draft a tackle at 9, I would expect a little more, to be honest.

Like what? He had an absolutely fantastic rookie season and was picking up where he left off before he got hurt
