Where the heck is the supposedly dominant D line?

I don’t understand why we are giving Goff all day to throw

I can count on one hand the amount of blitzes that we’ve sent

This game makes me really question Ryan’s as DC

That was immensely more dramatic than it should have been

I have been watching the 49ees since 1979. If they lost this would probably be worst during my time. I remember the Billy White Shoes Johnson game after all these years

Lol, its a bit before my time but I've heard of the Whiteshoes legend. However, I don't really know what happened.

Verrett likely done for the season. DBs get even thinner, going to have to sign Sherman

Re: Week 1: 49ers @ Lions
Would've liked to see them close the game out better but for the most part it was a pretty good day.
Now it wasn't a perfect day especially on defense and there are things that need to be cleaned up but the only real troubling thing that came out of the game was Verrett's injury because that's one of the injuries we could ill afford to have.
Offensively I liked what I saw but I can't get too excited since the Lion's D is just terrible but regardless they executed well.
Defensively they really need to plug that run defense and fast because in a close game that's going to be a problem if it's that bad.
I'm willing to give Ryans a bit of leeway as a 1st time coordinator because it was only a few years ago everybody wanted to chase Saleh out of town and he ended up growing into the role so some growing pains is just inevitable for Ryans this year.
Scored 41 points and we're 1-0 so can't complain too much about the start but judging for the rest of the NFC West they are really going to need to scrape together every win they can and they ill-afford to lose to opponents they have no business losing too.

Re: Week 1: 49ers @ Lions
In regards with the Lance package the biggest problem I saw was it was predictable.
I think it can work but only if a defense is convinced any play can be coming not just zone read. Right now if you're an opposing defensive coordinator you're going to prepare your guys for Lance by making sure they stop the zone read or similar plays and that's what the Lions were prepared to do.
I think if Shanahan wants the Lance package to work he'll have to dial up some deep shots when he's in and have plays that will defeat defenses keying in on RPO or zone reads.
Shanahan needs to get the package to a point that when Lance lines up the defense believes any play can be coming and has no idea what to expect when the ball is snapped.

That score was not that far apart but the 49ers were ahead and we all thought the 49ers were going to win that game. Atlanta rallied late. I don't recall the details but I will always remember the last play of the game. The Atlanta QB threw a pass to Johnson with time running out. Johnson was about five to ten yards short of the goal line. He Juked and made a couple of defenders miss and ran right into the endzone.

I think you nailed this. The Lions D is not good and they were able to stuff Lance. It was actually a negative yesterday as it killed a drive on third down. I appeared the Lions were not respecting the pass and they were playing the run all the way. Lance is not Lamar Jackson, and I don't want him to be. But you are right. If Shanahan wants this to work Lance is going to have to pass more and get teams to respect and plan for it. Otherwise it will end up like the Smith/Kaep situation which became ineffective to where Harbaugh abandoned it.
