Any projectable CBs in the 2nd-4th rounds now that it seems we have our starters for next year signed?

Looks like the 49ers are about lose NB K'Waun Williams to the Jets. Jets reportedly also pressed hard for Kendrick Bourne but lost out to the Pats.

From what I've heard, the CB class is pretty solid in the first and second rounds, but dries up pretty quickly after that.

Let's just hope he gets a big payday from them. Plenty of nickel CBs out there. Maybe we can actually upgrade.

Wonder how Jamar Taylor's injury is and if he will be ready for next year? I thought he played pretty well with Williams out and he would be cheap

NB is key because there are some really good slow WRs in the NFC West like Kupp who feast against other teams but haven't against the 49ers because they had good matchups for him.

But we did re-sign Moseley and Verrett. We will still need to draft another corner, but at least we have a key starter and a spot starter/nickel corner (depending on whether we can sign an upgrade over Moseley).

Still need to draft a CB but with Verrett and Mosely still in the fold it's not as dire of a need as it was.

The only key piece left is Trent Williams and getting him locked up because that'll be a big blow to need to upgrade and replace at least 3 positions on the offensive line.

Ideally we can get Williams and have enough to grab Mack for center. Obviously Mack wouldn't be a long term answer there but he'd at least buy you time to get the other positions sorted and maybe being able to groom someone to take over for him.

Then you could potentially trade down from 12 grab a CB and use the 2nd and/or 3rd round picks to address the offensive line. Fortunately something like RG you should be able to find quality starters in the 3rd and not something you need to blow a 1st rounder to address.

Samson Ebukam's cap hits, per Akash Anavarathan:

2021: 3.85M
2022: 7.75M

Aaron Wilson has the following: 500k roster bonus and 100k workout bonus. His incentives are 750k (Pro Bowl and sacks).

I agree, I thought Taylor was solid last season. He should come cheap, and if last season was any indication he'd be a decent depth piece at corner.

Another option at CB, could be Levi Wallace.

I'm not sure why but Buffalo didn't tender him, so he's now a UFA. Its somewhat concerning that they didn't tender him as his figure would have only been just north of $2 mil. I'm not real familiar with their situation, perhaps their cap situation is rough, or Maybe he's hurt, or maybe they just don't think he's all that good. However, he looked decent in the little bit of Buffalo I've watched, and he's started almost 30 games for them the last 2 seasons and their defense has been stout.

Welp, that means that my hope of his 2nd year being highly voidable is squashed. I hope he works out, but I'm not a fan of that signing currently.

Nothing about the above indicates the second year isn't voidable. It may not be, but I don't see anything in here that indicates it isn't.

I looked into it a little deeper and you're right.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/samson-ebukam-21867/

Spotrac has his dead cap number for next season at $1.75 mil versus a $8.25 mil cap hit if he stays. So if he underwhelms this season, its likely they cut him this time next year. Which makes the signing more palpable.

Yeah a contract that is backloaded like that has to be voidable. Otherwise, you'd have to question the competence of the front office.

Thought they did trade for Ford.

This guy has one year to produce. Big incentive to do so.

TRENT WILLIAMS
T, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

A 49ers source tells ESPN's Dianna Russini the team is making an "all hands on deck effort" to re-sign free agent LT Trent Williams.

“Nothing yet, but trust me," the source said. Despite not playing in 2019, Williams immediately slotted back in as one of the league's best overall players in 2020. He turns 33 in July, but he is still worthy of multi-year offers. Williams would be a huge loss for the 49ers.

Eagles reverted WR Marquise Goodwin back to the 49ers. He opted out of 2020. It was a 6th round pick swap between both teams plus Goodwin. 49ers took Charlie Woerner. Looked like there was some type of clause where this could happen, but Goodwin is expected to be cut.

Marathe vs. Shanahan/Lynch. Marathe is nails on the contracts. The roster management...somewhat less scintillating.

I've got to think the delay is actually a good thing for the Niners. It suggests no team is jumping in way above the Niners, or he probably would have left on day one. Hopefully he comes back. If not, we almost have to bolster the OL another way in FA. And then maybe force a pick at tackle in the draft.

Remember when there was a top OT on the board when we came on the clock in the first last year? Why didn't we take that guy? Even if only to replace McGlinchey.

Yeah, bringing Trent back helps in so many ways. One of which being it doesn't put pressure on Lynch to fill that LT hole in the 1st round.

Having the luxury of a completely open mind in the 1st round (which you always should, but it doesn't always turn out that way) and no glaring holes to fill, could make a move up to grab a QB more feasible. I'd love to grab Wilson, just don't think that's realistic at this point.
