Re: 2023 Season
It really makes you wonder why all these teams with bad QB play haven't adopted this foolproof offensive system that runs itself....
And why Niners QBs other than Garoppolo and Purdy have been bad, despite several of them hanging around the league for years.

We shouldn’t be rooting for him to play if he had any kind of concussion. Look at what happened to Tua last year when he had back to back concussions. It’s nothing to mess around with. This offense practically runs itself, so the QB is less important to the offense than with other teams.
This is utter nonsense
Jimmy G took this team to a Superbowl & an NFC championship bro.

First, I disagree that this offense runs itself (just ask Trey Lance!). But second, whether it does or doesn't run itself is entirely the wrong reason to base this decision on. We're talking about the brain of a 23-year old guy and with all the horror stories we've now seen with the long-term damage of CTE on football players at some point we have to walk the talk. If there is a risk to his future health, then we shouldn't be playing him this weekend. If the neurologists are convinced that another concussion so soon after Monday's won't do any damage at all, then Kyle should feel free to play him as soon as he clears protocol. The outcome of this one game is inconsequential to me compared to long term brain damage.

Agreed, plus we will get the added benefit of seeing what Darnold is capable of. He might look better than Purdy.

Come on bro, if the offense ran itself those guys and Hoyer could run it. Anyone off the street could. Your boy Lance was totally lost he couldn't even function running a vanilla version of it. Matt Ryan said it took him two years playing in it before he was comfortable. It is a complex offense.

Throw Hoyer in there. Darnold has also been horrible to date. But you've just argued that anyone with a pulse can run the offense. So why couldn't those guys? Why can't Zach Wilson despite markedly better physical tools?

Definitely agreed and well said. All this discussion is predicated on the assumption that he clears all protocols and is not putting himself in greater danger. Otherwise, give him the almost three weeks (with the bye) to bounce back.

Then why did they lose to the Eagles after Purdy was out?Big J wrote:arich35 wrote:CrimsonCrew wrote:Purdy is practicing. Hopefully that's a good sign.

They would have lost to the Eagles either way. Purdy wasn't gonna stop that train.

Darnold has thrown 1 regular season pass in this offense. Zach Wilson? He's never had Kyle calling his plays.

Who knows? The Eagles were a really good team who matched up very well with us. But if the refs hadn't blown a call/Shanahan had challenged it, we should have stopped the TD on the first drive. Purdy was 4 of 4 and moving the ball (granted mostly shorter stuff) when he went down.
On the next three drives, the Eagles had 13 yards combined and only one first down before they finally put together a long TD drive (following our TD to even things). It should have been - at worst - 14-7 going into the half with us getting the ball back to start the second half, but Josh Johnson had that unbelievably stupid fumble which he made almost no effort to recover.
Down 21-7 without a functional QB, that game was over. With Purdy playing all four quarters? I think we had a good shot of winning that game. The D looked pretty darn good until that fumble crushed their spirits.

Right. Darnold out of this offense has looked a lot like Beathard and Mullens. Why should we expect him to look so much better than them in it? Granted the talent now is somewhat better than what those guys had.
We'll see. Maybe Darnold's a perfect fit. I don't have a great sense of how good the Bengals' D is, and we'll be back at home after two tough road losses, so the team should be up for the game. But I'm not counting on him having a career renaissance based on what I've seen of him in the offense to date. He can't get through progressions the way Purdy can.

Reporters seem to think Brock is going to be cleared to play barring any setbacks.
He is out there practicing again today

Hmm, supposedly all players who've gone into concussion protocol has missed at least one game.
I guess no more QB sneaks for Purdy for awhile.

I saw that going around but it isn't true.
We have someone on our team that did it lol.
Jon Feliciano sustained a concussion in Week 4 against the Cardinals. Week 5 he was active and came in for Aaron Banks

If he's cleared after less than a week this could be Tua all over again.

No surprise but Lynch is working the phones for an edge rusher and cornerback.
Montez Sweat and Chase Young are mentioned as the Commanders are listening but they want at least a 2nd round pick for either one. I'm reading Chicago is in on Chase Young and are willing to get him and sign him long-term.
Sweat would be the name to look out and if Commanders are in sell mode I think Kendall Fuller could be an option.
I'd be surprised if Lynch didn't make a big move since the window is now and they really have too many draft picks for the next draft so burning some in a trade to help now makes sense.
The tricky part is the position we're in we can't really sign guys long-term so teams like the Bears of the NFL world can afford to be even more aggressive in a trade as their picks are not just more valuable but you're more likely to spend your picks if you plan on retaining the guy long-term.
I definitely think this team needs something though and I'm just not confident they can win it all as the roster stands.
