When we get Rosen, passing on those two will be worth it

When did the Niners trade for the Jets' first-round pick?

Even though I prefer Rosen, I actually think Darnold will be picked before him (probably by the Jets). After that, we have the trade ammo to go get Rosen. I'd be completely psyched.

That being said, we'll probably go with the MEH option of throwing a ton of money at Cousins

Mitchell Trubisky - QB - Bears

Mitchell Trubisky completed 6-of-8 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' second preseason game.

Trubisky did not enter the game until late in the third quarter, with Mark Sanchez getting in one series between starter Mike Glennon and the rookie. Coming off a rampaging performance in his NFL debut, Trubisky had a nondescript night on Saturday. Half of his yardage came on a screen pass and an easy dump-off on a bootleg, and Benny Cunningham was wide open on his short touchdown pass. He also forced a throw to the sideline which probably should have been intercepted. Even with Glennon struggling, playing Trubisky so late suggests the Bears are not serious about evaluating the No. 2 overall pick as a potential starter.

DeShone Kizer - QB - Browns

Browns second-round QB DeShone Kizer worked almost exclusively out of the shotgun in the team's preseason opener against the Saints.

Kizer worked out of the shotgun on around 95 percent of his snaps at Notre Dame and has seen similar usage since arriving in Cleveland. "To be in the shotgun is definitely back to where I’ve always been, and that’s being able to see the defense from five yards further back," he said. Kizer took 16 of his 18 snaps from the shotgun formation in last week's preseason opener, which actually worked against the Browns because New Orleans knew he would hand off whenever he was under center. While we'd still expect Kizer to see most of his work in shotgun, he'll at least need to be comfortable under center so as not to be predictable.

Cooper Kupp - WR - Rams

Rams third-round WR Cooper Kupp caught 6-of-7 targets for 70 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game.

Even with Sammy Watkins in the fold this week, Kupp was Jared Goff's go-to receiver. His score was a 23-yard pantsing of the Raiders on play action. Kupp now has eight grabs for 105 yards and a score through two summer games. It's the preseason, but he's proven quite adept at creating space and getting open. He could be a rookie problem with coach Sean McVay scheming him the ball.

Deshaun Watson - QB - Texans

Deshaun Watson completed 3-of-10 passes for 102 yards and rushed four times for ten yards and a touchdown in the Texans' second preseason game.

Watson struggled as a passer, but Bruce Ellington and D'Onta Foreman spiked his yards-per-attempt average with big run-after-catch plays, and Watson rushed for a score for the second straight week. Tom Savage is more advanced as a pocket passer, but Watson's playmaking ability is going to be needed by the Texans sooner rather than later. Savage remains the favorite to start Week 1.

Patrick Mahomes - QB - Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes completed 10-of-14 passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns, adding three scrambles for 29 additional yards.

Checking in after an impressive performance by Alex Smith, Mahomes had some fun against the Bengals' backups, showing off his entire skill-set. He scrambled, made some nice throws on the run and wasn't afraid to look down the field. Flushed from the pocket, he nearly had a 17-yard touchdown run, but stepped out of bounds before diving for the pylon. Smith can't afford any letups this season.

No one is talking about Beathard but he's been the most impressive rookie QB this preseason in my opinion. If not THE best then he at least belongs in the conversation with these guy.

I think so far I agree Dodub and I was big on the wtf are these morons doing trading up for this loser train. But from what I have seen so far and well just the state the Niners are in over all rebuilding. If it were up to me I would be sorely tempted to give Beathard every opportunity to take the starting job. He shows promise why not groom him see what you really have in him... Not like the Niners are even going to make noise in the playoff race. They are in the rebuilding stage and thus far looks like they have got some nice pieces with Foster, Thomas, Kittle, and Beathard... play them.

They say Bethard has been using the VR system they have the most. So maybe he's learning how defenses cover Shanahan's plays.

Beathard is useless. Matt Schaub 2.0.

Man, Kizer (or Trub) should be a 49er today. Argh.

Passing on Trubisky will go down as one of the all-time f***-ups in sports. The only thing I can think of to compare it to is when the Colts traded out of the 1 spot w/ Denver in the Elway draft, but even then they did it because Elway threatened to play baseball. The Fish & Rams passing on Matt Ryan might be a better comparison; either way, it's a friggn' disaster. :nonono:

I'm not as high on Kizer, but I think Kizer & Cousins are equally ok options. If they go for Cousins, I'm going to be thinking about that 100 million they could'vs spent on the D if they took Kizer. :banghead:

We don't know that. Trubisky is far from a sure thing. He may end up being the Matt Schaub 2.0. None of the QBs taken in 2017 is a sure thing

Cooper Rush - QB - Cowboys

Cowboys undrafted QB Cooper Rush has been getting second-team reps at practice.

Rush has been a standout during preseason play, completing 26-of-38 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns. Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported over the weekend that the Cowboys would have internal discussions regarding Kellen Moore, who seems ill-suited to be the team's backup quarterback. With Rush playing well, there's no guarantee that Moore will open as the No. 2 to Dak Prescott.

Bucky Hodges - TE - Vikings

Vikings OC Pat Shurmur said sixth-round TE Bucky Hodges is steadily improving.

Essentially a receiver in college, Hodges' transition was always going to be slow, but he has apparently made strides as a blocker. "The thing I like about him is, for basically being a receiver, he goes in and blocks and tries to block and tries to get dirty with those guys," coach Mike Zimmer said. Hodges is not going to make an impact as a rookie, but he is a name to watch in Dynasty.

Eddie Jackson - DB - Bears

The Chicago Sun Times' Adam Jahns thinks a starting safety spot is fourth-rounder Eddie Jackson's to lose.

Jackson made a highlight-reel play in the second preseason game, going up high to almost pull in a one-handed interception in the end zone, and he has apparently been making similar plays all camp. In fact, Jahns writes Jackson "has arguably been the Bears’ best defensive back." With Jackson joining Quintin Demps, Prince Amukamara, and Marcus Cooper, the Bears could send out an entirely new secondary Week 1.

Garett Bolles - T - Broncos

Broncos first-rounder Garett Bolles will start at left tackle.

"He’s won the job," coach Vance Joseph said. It is not a surprise considering Bolles has consistently worked with the first-team throughout camp, but he will be yet another new face for a revamped line -- free-agent signings Ronald Leary and Menelik Watson will handle right guard and right tackle respectively. With Matt Paradis locked in at center, the only spot still up for grabs is left guard. Max Garcia and Allen Barbre are expected to split time there in the third preseason game.
