Curtis Samuel - RB - Buckeyes

The Panthers brought in RB/WR Curtis Samuel for a top 30 visit.

Let's discuss why this makes sense. Samuel is a runner and receiver type, who was used as a ball carrier and slot receiver at Ohio State with the goal of creating mismatches. That might sound somewhat similar to Christian McCaffrey, who the Panthers have been linked to at No. 8. If the Panthers pass on McCaffrey, they could target Samuel in order to fill a similar role. The Panthers have two second round picks, No. 40 and 64.

Kareem Hunt - RB - Rockets

Toledo RB Kareem Hunt met with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday.

The 49ers are reportedly looking for supplements to -- or outright replacements for -- Carlos Hyde, so no huge surprise that they are kicking the tires on Hunt. Plenty of other teams during the evaluating process, including the Lions, Falcons, Bucs, Vikings and Patriots, have done likewise. CBS Sports' Rob Rang views the 5-foot-10, 216-pounder as having "starter qualities," noting that he more than held his own during the Senior Bowl practice week, always a good sign for non-Power 5 performers. He figures to be selected at some point on Day 3, though with all the current interest in Hunt, a late Day 2 slot probably should not be discounted.

Bucky Hodges - TE - Hokies

The Sporting News' Eric Galko believes that the Lions could target Virginia Tech TE Bucky Hodges in the second round.

The assumption here is that neither Alabama's O.J. Howard nor Miami's David Njoku will be available then Detroit picks at No. 21. Galko points to the 6-foot-6, 257-pound Hodges as a prime option for the Motor City Kitties at No. 53. Given the flush nature of the 2017 TE class, there will be talent at the position available for the Lions even later in the draft should they whiff on their earlier targets.

Obi Melifonwu - DB - Huskies

Per the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson, UConn S/CB Obi Melifonwu visited the Seattle Seahawks on Monday and is visiting the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday.

The Seahawks hold pick No. 26, while the 49ers could be eyeing Melifonwu as an option at No. 34 early in the second round. He has also drawn interest from the Dolphins, Steelers, Saints, Browns and Titans this month. The 6-foot-4, 223-pounder has been gearing toward a possible first-round selection ever since he blew up at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. Rotoworld's Josh Norris sees it happening in his most recent mock draft, tagging Melifonwu to the Cowboys at pick No. 28.

Gerald Everett - TE - Jaguars

Pro Football Focus compared South Alabama TE Gerald Everett to Los Angeles Chargers TE Antonio Gates.

"Everett, like Gates, is just exploding with athletic ability at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds as he enters the draft, but his technique – both as a blocker and as a route-runner – needs to be polished up, likely due mostly to a lack of experience," writes the PFF analysis team. They refer to Everett as "one of the more raw tight ends in this class," but there is tremendous offensive potential to be tapped here. He could see love as early as Round 2 of the draft next week.

Leonard Fournette - RB - Tigers

The San Francisco 49ers hosted LSU RB Leonard Fournette for a pre-Draft visit on Wednesday.

As the Sacramento Bee noted in its report, "there has been chatter for two months" that the 49ers would take Fournette No. 2 overall. We'd be a little surprised by that, as new head coach Kyle Shanahan has preferred multi-dimensional backs with receiving chops in the past (to say nothing of the fact that San Francisco has bigger needs on its decimated roster). We don't yet know what type of decision-maker new 49ers general manager John Lynch is, however, and Lynch may view Fournette as a franchise-changing talent. We'll find out next week.

Jabrill Peppers - DB - Wolverines

The San Francisco 49ers hosted Michigan S Jabrill Peppers for a pre-Draft visit on Wednesday.

If Peppers caught San Francisco's eye, they'd probably have to trade back into Round 1 to get him (assuming they stay at No. 2 overall). Peppers played all over the field at Michigan -- including as a linebacker last year -- but would probably play strong safety and nickel cornerback for the 49ers.

Myles Garrett - DL - Aggies

The Browns have fielded calls for the No. 1 pick but don't intend to trade down.

"We have received calls," Cleveland GM Sashi Brown said. "We feel really good about picking at one." Texas A&M edge rusher Myles Garrett is all but locked into that top slot. Cleveland is also reportedly interested in Mitch Trubisky. Walter Football's Charlie Campbell reported Wednesday that the Browns have spoken to the Jets about the possibility of moving up from No. 12 to No. 6 to take a signal-caller.

Joe Mixon - RB - Sooners

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora doesn't anticipate Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon slipping past the Jaguars' selection at the top of Round 2.

There's a caveat. If Jacksonville takes Leonard Fournette in Round 1, La Canfora believes Mixon's floor will be either Minnesota's Round 2 pick at No. 48 or Cincinnati's slot two pick later at No. 50. This report runs contrary to Mike Florio's recent dispatch that two sources had told him that Mixon may fall to Day 3. Mixon could go anywhere from late-Rd. 1 to early-Rd. 4. That's as big a range of outcomes as any prospect in this year's class.

This story here in particular is phucking weird as phuck! Not sure what to make of this, perhaps somebody might have paid him off under the table?

Joe Mixon - RB - Sooners

The father of a female high school classmate of Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon's recanted his allegation that Mixon hit his daughter.

Anthony Hernandez, the father, previously wrote in a Facebook post that he knew "for a fact" that Mixon "threw" his daughter to the ground "and hit her" when the two were in high school. It was a charged allegation in lieu of Mixon's well-documented, caught-on-video outburst of violence against a woman in the summer of 2014. But Hernandez has now rescinded it. "I have recently learned that a comment I made about Joe Mixon on social media a few years ago is now receiving a lot of attention. I want to explain that comment and clarify that I do not believe Joe ever did anything to hurt my daughter," Hernandez wrote. "... I reacted emotionally. Unfortunately, I did so before I had all the facts. ... I realize that I was mistaken about Joe’s involvement." Hernandez now says a "minor disagreement" with classmates was "blown out of proportion." He also said his daughter is still friends with Mixon.

Reuben Foster - LB - Crimson Tide

Citing "multiple league sources," CBS Sports reports that Alabama LB Reuben Foster's Draft stock is falling.

The reigning Butkus Award winner was in Indianapolis last week for medical rechecks after undergoing surgery on his rotator cuff in February (and getting sent home from the NFL Combine due to an argument with a hospital worker). Unfortunately, according to ESPN, some teams aren't satisfied about the state of his shoulder. It has been suggested that Foster may need a second surgery, though Foster's agent Malki Kawa said his client is "ahead of schedule" and "will be ready for training camp." Either way, an NFL.com poll published this week also found that evaluators predict Foster is most likely to slide on Draft Day. Stay tuned.

The only thing I think it changes is that the Niners will be more likely to get Myles Garrett because I think Trubisky will be the first pick overall regardless. I think if the Browns don't take Mitch, they'll trade to a team who wants him.

Either way, I'm about 80% sure Myles & Mitch will be the first 2 players selected.

Dude, the Browns are taking Myles and that's all there is to it. The dream of us taking him is dead. As for Mitch being taken at 2, it won't be by us. I'd be kind of surprised if we didn't end up trading down.

Reuben Foster - LB - Crimson Tide

Alabama LB Reuben Foster failed his Combine drug test due to a diluted sample.

Foster explained away the diluted sample by pleading illness, telling NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that he believed he was suffering from food poisoning in Indianapolis. "I couldn't eat much, but I had to drink water and Gatorade," he said, later adding that he "went in there, drinking and drinking water, trying to flush out my system from whatever was making me sick and trying to keep my weight up and took the test." A diluted sample is treated the same as a positive test by the NFL. Foster entered the draft process with the potential to be the first linebacker selected on Day 1 of the draft. Since then, matters have steadily devolved for the 6-foot-1, 240-pounder, who was kicked out of the Combine following a confrontation with a hospital worker and has also undergone offseason rotator cuff surgery. The general consensus has Foster's stock sliding as the draft nears. A first-round selection is still in play, here, but his trajectory is going in the wrong direction.

DeShone Kizer - QB - Fighting Irish

Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer believes that he has the ability to become the greatest quarterback of all time.

Explain yourself, Mr. Kizer. Said the Day 1 hopeful, "No one else can do what I can do. And I've truly figured out in this process, if I can maximize all my potential in every aspect of the game -- this is bold -- I do have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play." The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder then doubled-down on his self-hyperbole by saying, "Imagine taking Brady's intellect and Brady's preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton's body." Kizer has been thrashed about in some corners during the draft process, but if nothing else, it would appear that his confidence has not waned. But about that thrashing -- Sporting News' analyst Eric Galko hears that concerns about Kizer's mental makeup (among other factors) could cause him to slide into late second-round territory.
