New guy here on the boards but I've been reading as a guest for a while now.

Mike Wallace is my current favorite player and I can definitely see him as a number 1 in SF. He has stated that he could see himself being either a patriot or a 49er, he also has a good relationship with Crabtree.

He's a RFA and a reach, but with the right moves, it is possible that he lands here. I wouldn't mind trading away our first rounder or so.

Many fans believe that he wouldn't fit well within our system and that Alex Smith lacks the arm that would be compatible with deep threat Wallace. But I believe.

Agreed. Let Wallace take the safety away and Crabtree and VD work underneath. Morgan and Kyle Williams are solid. I say we take a chance on Eddie Royal. Decent rookie season and nothing much since. Can return punts and kickoffs and could be a decent wideout with us.

I am not a huge fan of getting Mike Wallace. He is a great player but I don't think he is worth all we would have to give. It would be a huge contract. I love Wallace but Smith isn't great at throwing the deep ball except when it is to the middle to Vernon. I think we can sign a different receiver and still keep our first round pick. To me we would be in a much better position going after a different receiver.

Dalbi, that's my main concern, the fact that A. Smith doesn't exactly posses a cannon, but nonetheless, Wallace would be quite a pick up. I'm sure that Smith will be able to adjust, his mentality would just need a little grooming. But I definitely understand your logic. All the while, I also believe that taking such a risk would be exciting, and I believe that the outcome will be positive. Of course, I'm an optimist.

I'm just hoping that the Niners don't cave and give Alex a 5 year contract. I mean, he had a good season last year, don't get me wrong, but....3 years tops, IMO.

They'll stand firm. If someone gives Smith a better offer, more power to him. No need to bid against yourself and cave in because the Bills and jets are stupid.

I like it. Unfortunately, I really feel like last year was our year to win it all (until a certain player fumbled it away twice), so I'm not so certain about how this year is going to go. We had a record breaking defense and hardly ever turned it over...not so sure that can happen again this year, so we'll definitely need to rely on our offense more this year.

Do you mean if they can't sign those two, would they be motivated to make a move? If so,I think some type of move. I if ginn leaves then we are in need of a return guy. Morgan would make a solid 3 receiver. I assume we are going moss can be the number 1 or maybe 2 behind crab.
In my opinion or priorities should be rogers, ginn then costanzo. Morgan would come after those 3 in my opinion.

Aside from the wideout woes, I feel like the team needs to keep the secondary consistent (CB Perrish Cox was signed to a 2 year today) and as good as Frank Gore is, we need some kind of back up plan in case he goes down, hunter is an ok option, but is no means of insurance.

The run game will have to provide as much leeway as possible with our current WR options.

I think Hunter is going to develop into the quality that we need at that spot. Dixon still has a little something to offer too.

I think Cox was just a really cheap potential. Didn't play at all last season and was a 5th round pick by the Broncos the year before. Had some legal trouble. My guess is most teams wouldn't want a guy like that but it seems like the Niners are willing to pay low money on guys with higher ceilings.

Reading the interviews, Cox seems to have matured from his previous predicament. I think he's got great potential. And, if he were to get into anymore legal troubles, the niners have the option of releasing him.

He is definitely saying the right things.

I guess he is a solid return guy (could be Ted Ginns replacement) and also had a good rookie year with 9 starts. I hope we still go after Rogers but this may be our back up plan. I wonder if the Niners use this as leverage against Rogers.

I'm unsure about the resigning of Rogers atm, sources say that the Niners are pursuing Brandon Carr with the Cowboys being another suitor.

So we got Rodgers back which means our defensive starters will all be the same with the exception of Aldon probably starting over Haralson. I think this is great news. It allows us to focus on other positions in the early rounds of the draft.

My opinion is that we should go WR (like Hill) in the first round, guard in the second, secondary in the third. I think our second round guard can probably start right away and will be an improvement. Our secondary player will be allowed to learn for a few years. Our receiver with the addition of Moss and hopefully another free agent receiver will also not be expected to do too much in year one.

Rogers is back.

The 49ers, who watched locker-room standout Joshua Morgan depart earlier in the day, will hang onto another favorite, cornerback Carlos Rogers. News of Rogers' return first was reported by Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole. NFL Network later followed that up with a report that Rogers had agreed to a four-year deal worth a maximum of $31.3 million. That's a hefty raise for a cornerback who last year find little interest in free agency and who played on a one-year deal worth $4.25 million.

Meanwhile, special teams ace Blake Costanzo, who badly wanted to return to the 49ers, instead agreed to a two-year deal with the Bears, according to his agent, David Canter. The 49ers signed two of Costanzo's teammates from their coverage units, C.J. Spillman and Tavares Gooden, but had no interest in a deal with Costanzo.
