Forgotten? There's a word I do not like in the scouting community.

Re: 2017-18 CFB SEASON / '18 NFL DRAFT
Nelson & Chubb are the only players worth trading up for IMO, and that's not gonna happen; so I think the Niners' only way to really win in this draft is to trade down. Stockpile picks in 2019. The Rams are going all-out for this year; Niners need to build long, long term IMO. Seattle is still the biggest long-term threat as long as Wilson is playing.

Sam Darnold - QB - Player
An "NFL talent evaluator" told NJ Advance Media's Matt Lombardo the Giants will select USC QB Sam Darnold if he is available at No. 2 overall.
This has been the buzz for several weeks. Unfortunately for the Giants, the Browns are also reportedly smitten with Darnold, meaning they need a Plan B. According to Lombardo's source, that plan does not involve a different quarterback. "Their top three choices are Darnold, [Penn State RB] Saquon Barkley, and [NC State EDGE] Bradley Chubb," the evaluator said. "They are debating Barkley vs. Chubb because they need an edge rusher but the scouts love Barkley." Both Barkley and Chubb have visited the Giants in the last week.

Lamar Jackson - QB - Cardinals
NFL Media Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes that Louisville QB Lamar Jackson could be the replacement for Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger in time.
This is one that has picked up some steam as of late, as Jackson looks to have "solidified" himself as a late-first, early-second round selection. As Jeremiah writes: "I think Jackson would be too tempting to pass up if he's still available at No. 28. He has tremendous upside and you could sprinkle him into the offense this season to gain immediate value." We think it'd be fun to see Jackson in sub packages while he learns behind Big Ben, and he should be ready to take over whenever Roethlisberger calls it quits.

Kyle Lauletta - QB - Spiders
NFL Media Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes that Richmond QB Kyle Lauletta could be the future replacement for Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers.
Jeremiah believes that Lauletta could be the selection in the second round with the 48th pick. Very few players -- and certainly no quarterbacks -- have seen their draft stock rise more than the 6-foot-3, 222-pound signal-caller has this spring. "I like the idea of selecting Lauletta in the second round," writes Jeremiah. "He has just enough arm strength to go along with excellent accuracy and anticipation. He also has the mobility to escape pressure and throw on the move."

That’s my issue with St. Brown too. Smooth, and athletic player for his size but plays a soft. Same issue Malachi Dupre had last year:
Equanimeous St. Brown - WR - Fighting Irish
NFL Media's Lance Zierlein compares Notre Dame WR Equanimeous St. Brown to Andre Holmes.
Not exactly the most awe-inspiring comp, but keep in mind that Holmes has flashed brilliance at the highest level; he just hasn't shown consistency. The same can be said of St. Brown when he was with Notre Dame. Zierlein notes that the talent is certainly there, but he questions his competitiveness when going for the football, and his routes are easily deciphered by defensive backs. He'll likely go on Day 2 because of his talent, but there's a ton of volatility in this type of prospect.

Weird because I absolutely hated Dupree in college, and I love Eq. Think he's the best WR in the draft.
But take that with a grain of salt because WR is the hardest position for me to evaluate. Corey Davis was my favourite WR in the draft when people were talking about him like he's a 3rd-round pick, but he had a really quiet, rookie year.
One disadvantage draft nerds have that NFL personnel people don't is that they get to know these players personally. They know the personalities, and all we see is interviews & game day. Personality & work ethic are impossible to predict...
That said, Notre Dame usually produces pretty good character guys (Michael Floyd notwithstanding). Grew up w/ his dad, and he's from a family of athletes, so I think he's going to do great. Speaks German & French; seems like a really smart guy.

I know the main reason is I'm getting older so I no longer understand as much but I don't think I've liked a draft hat in a long time. These are downright awful.

I take that back somewhat. The Aldon Smith year wasn't a bad hat. Not great but not terrible.
Crabtree's year was the last one that I actually had.

Arden Key - DL - Tigers
ESPN's Todd McShay projects the Texans to take LSU edge-rusher Arden Key with the 68th pick in his "Grade A" three-rouind mock draft.
The Texans don't have a first or second-round pick because of trades made last year, so Key would become their first selection in this version. Once considered a potential top-five selection -- with some mentioning him as a first-overall candidate -- Key's stock has slipped due to inconsistencies both on and off the field. This would be a high-risk, high-reward pick, but if he does fall this low, the reward just might outweigh the risk.

GMFB crew proposes crazy trade that sends Odell Beckham Jr. to the 49ers
http://www.nfl.com/videos/good-morning-football/0ap3000000925905/GMFB-crew-proposes-crazy-trade-that-sends-Odell-Beckham-Jr-to-the-49ers
Would I do that? No. And that's coming from a guy who advocated for ODB as a prospect coming in. And that's also coming from a guy that isn't in love with what I believe is going to be there at 9. But the stuff next year is far too rich for me given the maturation process ODB is in and the contract situation surrounding him.
If I had to create a more interesting conversation the topic I'd propose is would you rather have ODB for the players YOU BELIEVE the 49ers could/might/will end up with at 9, and the first 2 picks next year.
If you're somebody that has complete or still has faith in Adam Peters, Lynch, and company, or just aren't that interested in the draft, then this little exercise probably isn't going to be an entertaining for you. As I said, that's too many picks, plus a player I still like even if I think he's becoming more and more fragile, but if I must factor in Lynch, Peters and company as drafters, it becomes a bit juicier of a question if I might look back and say that I'd have rather swung for the fences with ODB than those 4 players (1 known, 3 somewhat unknowns).
For the record even though I probably have less faith in Peters, Lynch, and company than most people do, I'd PROBABLY still rather roll the dice on what THEY'RE going to do than take on ODB, mostly because of the maturity issues compacting with what I'd have to do ballpark contract wise in the near future. I'm just saying that when I begin to factor in the Peters/Lynch/Shanahan predictability then it becomes closer to a toss up to me.
-------------
I don't see their Buffalo trade idea as being that realistic. Even though I don't really consider their Odell one that realistic either. Benjamin is a hair under mouth watering tempting - whatever that is - but as I've said in the past I fully expect him, like Dez Bryant and a couple other receivers in today's NFL, that he is going to have an ugly breakdown once his body starts to go on him and it's likely going to come earlier than many other WRs IMO, too.
On the positive side it would be adding a size monster that I think Jimmy G. HAS to have if he has ANY shot to do anything nice. The other positive thing is you move back into an area that opens you up contractually to an area where I start to like a number of the draft guys a hair more, too, and it gives you that extra 2nd rounder which is something else a part of me has wanted to get for this draft if I could.
---------------
In the end neither would be plan A for me. I will continue to say that I would advocate for the move up to go get Nelson if I could. Yes, I'm still a close my eyes and swing on Rosen kind of guy if Nelson isn't there, even though it goes against some of the character/durability stuff I've said for years on my type of QBs, but that will never, ever, ever, ever happen anymore with the Jimmy G. stuff so there's no sense in wasting people's time on screaming for that other than to acknowledge that I haven't changed my mind on JR since finalizing my evaluation on him.
