James Washington - WR - Cowboys

Oklahoma State senior WR James Washington caught two passes for 98 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 44-7 win over South Alabama.

While Washington was not a huge factor in terms of volume, his touchdown was a thing of beauty and athleticism. After working play-action, QB Mason Rudolph hit the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder in stride as he was cutting in on a post around midfield. And then it was all over, as Washington hit the nitro button and easily cruised past the defending corner to make his way to the end zone. It was as indicative a play of a pure athletic advantage as you'll see this season. Washington was just that much better, and he made it look easy. The star wideout is up to eight catches for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He'll look for more of the same against Pitt next weekend.

Nick Chubb - RB - Bulldogs

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah compared Georgia senior RB Nick Chubb to Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard.

"He's at his best working between the tackles and grinding out tough yards," Jeremiah writes. "He doesn't quite have the burst or top speed he possessed as a younger player, but he did flash some elusiveness in space (against Appalachian State in the season-opener)." Chubb (5'10/235) rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns in last weekend's win over the Mountaineers. He will have a spotlight opportunity to impress the scouting community when Georgia takes on Notre Dame on Saturday.

Pozz,

Do you have a subscription to PFF College? I'm curious as to what Christian Campbell's (PSU, CB) rating is in coverage. QBs just don't look his way, but also he's a novice tackler so I'm sure his overall rating doesn't jump out.

New Mexico State University is actually putting a beat down on a team. Tyler Rogers 284 passing yards, 3 TDs, before the 2nd half in a game they were favored to lose.

I can't get you any numbers from this year unless I dig deeper and see if they covered any from what I get, but coming into this year they had him last year with...

Targeted 44 times
Allowed 20 receptions for 186 yards, allowed 42 YAC, allowed 1 TD, 1 INT, 55.7 QB rating when targeted.
6.7 coverage snaps/target
0.63 yards/cover snap
14.7 cover snaps/rec.

Don't have where that puts him nationally for you. Sorry.

Looks about right. He didn't give up a reception vs Akron partially due to getting taken out of the game after the first quarter since it was already becoming an upset. I only saw him give up one reception today. Before Saquon Barkley really took the spotlight, I remember a DL on the team describing Campbell as a better athlete than Gesicki. Definitely a sleeper, he's not even ranked on most ranking sites.

Royce Freeman - RB - Ducks

Oregon senior RB Royce Freeman rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in Saturday's 42-35 win over Nebraska.

Freeman posted a down year in 2016, rushing for 945 yards in 11 games, but all indications early this season have him crashing his way back to his old, Heisman-contending ways. On Saturday, the 6-foot, 230-pound senior had himself a pair of short touchdown runs in the first and second quarters. In just two games this season, Freeman has rushed for 303 yards and six touchdowns. He should be able to run all over Wyoming in next weekend's contest.

Hype train has to be for Lamar Jackson, Rosen, right?

Darnold had a good game but threw 2 picks.

The one on 3rd down is somewhat forgivable as they didn't lose out on that much yardage because they were going to have to punt. The yardage difference wasn't that big. I can live with it. The other one was awful. Lower body was a mess, Double covered and it was badly under thrown. Can't and won't defend that one.

With each passing week it's becoming more and more cemented for me that it's going to be a dilemma in my own head because Rosen frightens the daylights out of me with his character make up but some of the stuff he's doing on the field is stuff that you don't really get from anybody else in the country right now when translating it to the NFL game. IMO.

If Rosen is going to be who he's been and what I could see him being from a maturity standpoint then I'm definitely out on him from the standpoint of rooting for him as a player and he just wouldn't be a player I'd ever want to take on if I were thinking about it from a coaching perspective.

At the same time he could go down as one of those rare prospects where the prevailing thought on him for me is, "What could have been" if he had someone else's make up/maturity (Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, etc.) because some of what he does is special enough that you'd love to take it on if the make up and maturity wasn't what it was. We'll see, though.

If Rosen can mimic the emotional development that Aaron Rodgers took, I suppose that would be the best and most realistic possible outcome I could hope for even though there's major parts to Rodgers I don't always love and get behind but that's probably Rosen's best possible and most realistic path he could take since I don't think he's ever going to be someone I ever completely agree with on everything he does.

Jarrett Stidham - QB - Tigers

SEC Country's Randy Capps assigned Auburn redshirt sophomore QB Jarrett Stidham an "F" grade for his performance in Saturday's loss to Clemson.

Stidham was sacked a whopping 11 times on Saturday and managed all of 79 yards passing in what was a dominant defensive performance by Clemson. While much of this unpleasantness stems from the offensive line -- obviously -- Capps notes that Stidham "has to share the blame for that as well, at times holding on the football for too long." We still love Auburn's upside, but Saturday's showing was not encouraging with conference play on the horizon.

It may be moot. 49ers may not be in a position to draft any of these top QB prospects.

If we address defense anywhere in the first it better be for Derwin James.

Christian Wilkins - DL - Tigers

ESPN's Mel Kiper calls Clemson junior DT Christian Wilkins a "Jonathan Allen-type lineman."

"He could be an end in a 3-4 defense or a 3-technique tackle in a 4-3," Kiper wrote. Wilkins ranks No. 10 overall on Kiper's board. As a sophomore, Wilkins had 3.5 sacks and 13 TFL. He bagged 1.5 sacks against Auburn last weekend. Wilkins gets Lamar Jackson and friends at Louisville on Saturday.

Josh Rosen - QB - Bruins

UCLA junior QB Josh Rosen ranks No. 2 on Mel Kiper's Big Board.

Through two games, the 6-foot-4, 218-pound Rosen is completing a career-best 67.9 percent of his passes for a career-high 9.76 yards per attempt while posting a divine 9/0 TD/INT rate. The numbers are great, though an NFL scout did tell Sports Illustrated's Bruce Feldman that Rosen "definitely got away with a number of poor choices" during that epic comeback win over Texas A&M in the opener. "However, he can stand in the pocket and deliver the football with different arm angles and off platform," the scout added. "The question is from the neck up, he’s got everything from the neck down. Plenty of arm, easy release, accuracy when moving from one receiver to the next."

Lamar Jackson - QB - Cardinals

Three of five NFL personnel executives polled by NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah answered that Louisville junior QB Lamar Jackson is the best player in the Clemson-Louisville game.

The other two votes were for Clemson DL Christian Wilkins. Said one of the execs who responded with Jackson: "It has to be Lamar Jackson. Hands down. He's an incredible athlete and playmaker. Even though he might miss that easy throw in the first quarter, when the money is on the line, he gets it there. When he gets outside the pocket, he is special." Jackson is the No. 13 overall prospect on Mel Kiper's Big Board.

Lamar Jackson - QB - Cardinals

Though NFL Media's Bucky Brooks was impressed with Louisville junior QB Lamar Jackson against UNC, Brooks wrote that Jackson "repeatedly sailed the ball over the head of his intended receiver on a handful of deep comebacks and outs."

"Jackson's misses were so egregious that I wonder if he can play in an offense that features out-breaking routes or target routes that finish between the bottom of the numbers and the sidelines," Brooks wrote. "Jackson can certainly improve on those throws by refining his footwork at the top of his drops, but he will need to diligently work on his throwing platform to become the consistent passer that coaches and scouts desire in a QB1." Brooks went on to gush over Jackson's athleticism and running ability before concluding that NFL teams "want to make sure [Jackson] can win in a traditional manner, by picking apart defenses with precise throws to every area of the field." Jackson will get another chance to flash his improving pocket game in a marquee matchup against Clemson's elite defense on Saturday.

Baker Mayfield - QB - Sooners

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah urged those who don't see Oklahoma redshirt senior Baker Mayfield as an NFL quarterback to reconsider.

"Mayfield can work through progressions quickly, has a quick release, is a good athlete and looks like he has enough arm strength," Jeremiah wrote. Mayfield (6'1/220) was on Jeremiah's mind after he completed 27-of-35 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's upset win over Ohio State. "He was making quick decisions, and he was reading the entire field," Jeremiah wrote. "He used his elusiveness to get out of trouble and threw very accurately on the move." Jeremiah previously compared Mayfield to a "more explosive" Colt McCoy, but now he says he'll revisit that comp later this season.
