This is a game you don't care if you lose. Out of conference on the road. Oh well.

Ball was underthrown, but Jennings has to work a lot harder to become a DB there.

Yeah, Mac doesn't have the arm strength to make that throw off his back foot.

I don't like Sky Moore.

He didn't field the punt, then ran full speed toward the ball after it bounced.

Just begging for it to hit him and cause a turnover

If we don’t trade for a pass rusher I’m going to be pissed

In order to do what? Don’t throw good money after bad, imo. We’re way too injured to do anything this season. I’m not suggesting tanking, but I certainly don’t want to throw more draft capital in pursuit of a worse draft position. Self-scouting is in many ways the most important scouring you can do. Not taking a shot, I totally understand that football doesn’t reward tanking the way basketball does, and it’s normally peddle to the metal 24/7. But we can’t even beat a struggling Houston team at home, we aren’t doing anything meaningful this season and I don’t want to cost next season and the seasons after it just to feel a little better about the trim on the Titanic.

There are lot more things to consider than draft position, some of which are far more important.

The Defensive line is just straight up decimated. Plugging in street level free agents isn't a sustainable model, you have to have NFL level talent in there. You can't just punt such a critical component of your defense like rushing the passer. That severely hamstrings your defense and puts them at an incredible disadvantage any time they take the field.

The defense as a whole is pretty inexperienced, especially in its current iteration. If your defense routinely fails, and those young guys constantly lose their individual matchups/assignments then you run the real risk of those guys losing their confidence and developing bad habits. When that happens with young guys, sometimes its not reversible and they are ruined.

There is also the possibility that they trade for a guy/s that will be more than 1/2 season rentals. There aren't any rules saying you can only trade for players in the last year of their contracts.

You also have the obvious factors in the equation like players with contract incentives and playing for their next contracts. Win/loss records playing a huge factor in coaches and front office guys' fates. Then you have guys like Trent, Kittle, CMC, etc who we don't know how many years they have left. Waiving the white flag on the season, with a 5-3 record no less, probably won't thrill those guys. Its a disservice to them and the team overall.

This is a 5-3 team that is currently 3-0 (which means they also hold the tiebreaker over all NFC west teams) in the division and 5-1 in the conference. In other words, they are still firmly in the playoff mix. When you get into the playoffs anything can happen. Say maybe SF lands on the beneficial side of an extremely fluky injury like Purdy's elbow or Greenlaw's ankle that completely shifts how a game transpires.

While yes, we have plenty to worry about with the defense. There are also no notable reinforcements on the way. On the other hand, there is a substantial amount of notable talent waiting to be re-inserted into the equation on the offensive side of the ball.

With Sam O and Elliot now iffy at best for next week, SF has to make some kind of trade just to have some NFL caliber talent along the DL against the Giants next week. If an opportunity arises to make a move for a notable pass rusher that makes sense, great do it. But right now at the bare minimum they need some capable bodies.

I do expect a move for a notable pass rusher before the trade deadline. Maybe not a top shelf guy but a noteworthy guy. But as mentioned above they have to do something to bring in a capable body for next week. What guys you do have are going to flat out run out of gas early in the game, which would make an already weak spot all the more detrimental.
