Yes, they should. I'd take a 6th rounder for Vernon Davis, for example.

It's time to move on. The sooner the 49ers' brass realizes it, the sooner we'll be competitors again.

Hmm how does a 6th rounder really improve the chances of improving the team?

Yeah I know Brady was a late pick but that is a fluke.

VD may be done but the sixth rounder they get for him mat not even make the roster or get meaningful snaps.

Should they trade Bowman for a sixth too?

Or Hyde for a fourth?

Maybe they get good players who with great coaching could be stars. But does this staff have the kind of coaches to develop projects?

Or are you just saying give away starters so it's easier to tank for a higher pick?

What is the strategy, trade away unproductive players or also productive players to tank?

Maybe get rid of VD to get Bell and McDonald more snaps?

Or is the logic get rid of players just to get rid of them?

The strategy is to move on from high-priced, old players that will not be in our plans moving forward. 1) you allowed for younger guys, in this case McDonald and Celek, and 2) we get more ammunition in the draft to start rebuilding our team.

A guy like Vernon Davis, for instance, serves no purpose for this team. Not for the present nor the future.

@nwagoner: Rams coach Jeff Fisher said LB Alec Ogletree will require ankle surgery. Could be candidate for IR with designation to return but unsure now
