Chill bro. Nothing wrong with admitting when someone is great. We had the same thing going here back when Joe & Steve were manning the squad. Hopefully we can take some notes on what they are doing and return to our dominant ways.

I'm more impressed with the Chiefs coaching than anything else.

Reid just consistently calls a great game on offense. I think Shanahan has the highest highs when it comes to playcalling because when he's locked in our offense looks amazing but when he's off the offense looks like crap whereas Reid just consistently calls a good to great game nearly every game.

Spags is basically the defensive version of Reid in that he rarely calls a bad game. I also appreciate how clutch the Chiefs defense is and they actually can get stops when it's absolutely needed.

Chiefs have been hitting on far more of their top draft picks, especially after Mahomes got the big contract.

But they also have the refs in their back pocket. They get every big call.

This is the season thread. What else are we supposed to talk about here?

Patrick Mahomes' greatness is unquestioned.

However, Kansas City has been a defense driven team for a couple years now.

100%

Its incredible how clutch KC's defense is.

Imagine your D being able to hold a super late lead and closing out a HUGE game. To say nothing of getting multiple 4th down stops, goal line stands, and shutting down 2 PT conversions.

Having a clutch D is a luxury, we as 49er fans don't really know anything about.

Most of these defensive guys weren’t even there when Mahomes started winning rings.

Which is irrelevant to what I said about KC being a defense driven team the last couple years.

Mahomes can win with whatever team is put around him. He's proven that. He makes the conference championship every damn year.

Mahomes is great, and the KC defense is great.

It is possible for those two realities to exist simultaneously.

Seriously. I was suffering PTSD when they had that jail-break blitz on the Bills' final 4th down. So reminiscent of the two biggest offensive plays in last year's SB (blown 3rd down conversion coming out of the two-minute warning and 3rd and goal in OT). Why can't teams stop that?

Sure, but he's also won without a great defense.

Cowboys hired Nick Sorensen to be their Special Teams Coordinator.

It's as if the Cowboys are trying to have the worst possible offseason they can.

I mean even though Kyle really wanted to keep Sorensen on staff somehow even he passed on giving him the ST job which puts up some red flags to me.

Who are you guys rooting for in the Super Bowl? I'm going for Philly because I'm still pissed at the Chiefs for beating us twice.

Watching this video on the Chiefs defense made me a little jealous.

I really hope that report that the 9ers want the defense to innovate and be a little more exotic wasn't just coach speak and actually true.

Lining up and relying on being more talented on defense just does not work in today's NFL. I'd say offense in general is the smartest it's been probably ever so you really have to be able to stress offenses mentally or you'll get quickly get carved up and outschemed like we saw with our defense this season.

I work with a big time Philly fan so unless I want to hear it for a year I'm rooting for the Chiefs to win. Not that I want either to win because it was honestly my the matchup I least wanted to see when the playoffs started.

The Chiefs call their D the way the Niners call their O - though very arguably more effectively as Shanahan tends to pucker late in games. They'll do things early in the game just to see how the offense reacts to it, set it up, and then exploit it later. It would be so refreshing to see us do more of that....

Man, there is such a gratuitous hold by the NT on the double-team block around the 5:45 mark. Literally just hauls the OG around by his jersey to free up Bolton to make the tackle. Granted it's inside, but that has to be called.

Not that this is a topic I pay attention to, but there just seems to be a lot of criticism lately about how Chiefs games are officiated from fans and somr members of the media.

What struck me about Warner's recent comments about Saleh coming back was his experience with Saleh the last time. He spoke about Saleh's ability to make adjustmentd and how could things on the fly.

To my eyes, and I'm admittedly biased, the Chiefs are not officiated the way other teams are. They get lots of calls that go their way, especially crucial calls that involve Mahomes. At the same time, they probably hold worse than any other team in the league, but are almost never called there. Now, there's a caveat. Last year in the regular season, their OTs were penalized a lot for holding. But I don't believe they drew any holding penalties in the playoffs despite continuing to hold CONSTANTLY. I'm fairly certain they are coached to do so. If you are going to let a team mitigate their biggest weakness through blatant uncalled penalties, while simultaneously give them any call whatsoever that involves their QB - who flops and fake slides in fairly unprecedented fashion - then they're going to be hard to beat. Especially with that D.

I think of a couple plays that really seal it for me. In the first SB, Kittle broke that huge play toward the end of the first half. We get flagged for a push-off. Did he push off? Yeah, probably, but it was a close call. Then on that crucial 3rd and like 25, Bosa just gets dragged down by the OT. No call. This past SB - which I don't blame on officiating, because we really should have won it even with the officiating - we were called for holds twice in the run game. But again on a crucial third and long, Mahomes fled the pocket, and Hargrave was literally being held around the waist from behind by the OL giving Mahomes the edge, and there was no call.

You just can't have fair games if things that are that blatant go uncalled. The hold I cited above is less egregious - at least in terms of the no-call. It's very obviously a hold, but the hands were inside the body and it happened on the interior. That sort of thing goes uncalled a lot.
