The child in him literally is what terrifies me about them having to rely on him as much as they now do. Funny that term came up.

Not surprised in the least. Clearly, Hyde isn't in their plans for the future and along with Reid I would just take whatever I could for them.

I would throw Staley in there but the offensive line needs way too much and I don't think you want to leave that unit that barren especially if you have the possibility of having a rookie QB next season. Though if a team wants to offer a 4th rounder for him I would at least listen.

Shanahan: 'Not much of a difference between' Hyde, Breida

http://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/shanahan-not-much-difference-between-hyde-breida

“I know they have different styles. But similar to Atlanta, whether it’s Devonta Freeman for Tevin Coleman, it didn’t matter much. There are some things that one does better than the other, and vice versa. But when you have two guys, it’s a good problem to have. You go with the hot hand but you also try to play both of them and keep them fresh.”

:nonono: Yeah. No differences at all. To be fair I did highlight the quote that allowed him to go into further detail but man, I couldn't disagree more with the overall theme.

Buckner and Tartt appear for them again. And Ward. Yep.

Occasionally this is what you get as part of the Brock Coyle experience. He's my new Shayne Skov/Nick Bellore. Only maybe, just maybe worse in some respects. :nonono:

Snap count: In first game without Bowman, Coyle struggles to fill void

http://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/snap-count-first-game-without-bowman-coyle-struggles-fill-void

Witherspoon, who they reference yesterday, doesn't have enough snaps to qualify yet for a ranking.

Thomas has climbed their rankings for 3 straight weeks now. Armstead and then Lynch (neck and neck) are still the team's highest graded edge defenders for the entire season.

Tartt is still in their top 5.

Garcon is 6th.

Ian Rappaport was on KNBR this morning. He does not believe Hyde is on the trading block. He stated the 49ers are working on an extension for him

Armstead broken hand might need surgery and could go on IR. Pretty much a nothing for us. I wonder if they cut him in the off-season or trade him. Dude wasn't a fit for this front. If coaching staff stays the same can't see them being very excited about him coming back.

Lynch gimped as well and will miss some time. So Cooper and Thomas at ends now? Hopefully Thomas can provide a much better pass rush playing in Lynch's spot.

Arik Armstead - DL - 49ers

49ers DE Arik Armstead suffered a broken hand Week 6 against the Redskins and needs surgery.

Per coach Kyle Shanahan, Armstead will be out a "while." Armstead had transitioned to 4-3 end under new DC Robert Saleh and was having a strong start to the year, receiving plus marks from Pro Football Focus for both his pass rush and run defense. The 2015 first-rounder has 1.5 sacks thus far.

Sucks for Armstead... Idk how he could fit here.... The guy doesn't make the plays that Buckner is doing....

Not surprised either

Should Armstead still be considered a building block for the core/foundation of the defense?

That is a really good question right now. IDK, where does he fit in the 4-3 defense? Didn't see much from him in the LEO position.

I can't tell.

Obviously wasn't a fan of his during that draft but gave him a chance. He showed some flashes, feels like there's more hype than production at times. You(in general) can see the potential to be something of a factor in games but it hasn't materialized yet.

Now throw in the various injuries mounting up.... idk... maybe he needs to change his physique and become more of a bull than he is now?

I really didn’t like him coming out of Oregon—I despised that pick. As a matter of fact many draft analysts were doing their mocks and had projected us selecting him weeks or maybe even months prior to the draft. The first time I witnessed that i almost vomited.

Anyway, he sort grew on me. Not sure what it is, but I think he can become a very good player in the league. Not an elite player but surely someone who can make 2 or 3 pro bowl appearances. I’m not even sure we’re using him correctly. He’s a 3/4 end. If he ends up being traded to another team (Pats or Chargers for instance) he’d ball out for them, but it must be in the right scheme.

Arik Armstead - DL - 49ers

49ers placed DE Arik Armstead (broken hand) on injured reserve.

The 49ers tipped their hand earlier Tuesday, signing DL Tony McDaniel and Leger Douzable. Armstead will presumably be a candidate for return, but he'll have to sit out eight games first, meaning he can't return until Week 16. At that point, the 49ers might not bother. The No. 17 overall pick of the 2015 draft, Armstead was off to a solid start this season, plugging the run and providing some pass rush. Things are in danger of getting really ugly for the rebuilding 49ers.
