Sam Darnold - QB - Trojans

USC redshirt sophomore QB Sam Darnold completed 26-of-38 passes for 223 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 30-20 win over Cal.

Darnold has had himself something of a wobbly start to his season -- he has now been intercepted seven times in four games after being picked just nine times in 13 contests last season. Still, he has come through with the big throws when USC has needed them from him, with a short scoring pass to Deontay Burnett early in the fourth quarter helping to keep Cal at bay while the game was still in balance. If he continues to play this up-and-down, though, the Trojans are probably going to trip at some point. For now, they're 4-0. Next Friday's trip to Pullman to take on Washington State is a potentially troublesome contest.

Mason Rudolph - QB - Cowboys

Oklahoma State senior QB Mason Rudolph completed 22-of-41 passes for 398 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Saturday's 44-31 loss to TCU.

While Rudolph ended up with a hearty enough yardage total in the defeat, he also turned in his first multi-interception game of the young campaign. The senior gunslinger is now the owner of a still sharp 13/3 TD/INT ratio on the year. He has thrown for at least 300 yards in each of Oklahoma State's first four contests. That mark should be easily attainable against Texas Tech next weekend.

Watched a little bit of Auburn RG Braden Smith, and he's pretty impressive. Maybe not on Quenton Nelson's level, but he looks pretty good so far (this was his 2016 footage).

On this play, he blocks the DT to the outside & then picks up the DE running a stunt with no problem. Nice!

Image

On this play, he just pushes the DT three and a half yards back; he was pushing his guys around all day.

Image

If Tomlinson doesn't work out, he might be a nice option. Extremely athletic & plays low. Dominates in both aspects of the game.

Saquon Barkley - RB - Nittany Lions

Penn State junior RB Saquon Barkley leads the Big Ten in both receptions and receiving yardage.

Barkley has caught 23 passes for 335 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Maryland WR D.J. Moore is second in the conference in both categories, one catch and 22 yards behind Penn State's supernova junior. Barkley tallied a school-record 358 total yards in Saturday's thrilling win over Iowa and is putting in a simply remarkable campaign on the whole. He's tracking toward a Heisman the way he's going right now.

After last year, I liked Michigan C Mason Cole over Billy Price, but Price clearly has the higher ceiling (which isn't to say he'll be better). Neither one looks like the 2nd coming of Nick Mangold unfortunately; C is maybe the 2nd-biggest need on the team. :(

Should've drafted Pat Elflein instead of Witherspoon. :banghead:

Christian Kirk - WR - Aggies

Texas A&M junior WR Christian Kirk was listed as one of Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline's "risers" after his performance against Arkansas.

Kirk (5'11/200) scored three touchdowns against the Razorbacks; two in the air and one on special teams. Pauline notes that Kirk is a "threat to score from any point on the field every time the ball is in his hands." Pauline also believes that Kirk is a lock to be drafted somewhere in the first two rounds. If he has more performances like he did on Saturday, that number could -- and probably should -- drop.

Courtland Sutton - WR - Mustangs

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline believes that SMU redshirt junior WR Courtland Sutton's draft stock is sliding based on his performances this season.

Sutton (6'4/216) had a massive game against North Texas where he scored four touchdowns. Since then, the production hasn't been there, and Pauline believes teams are taking note. He's caught just 13 passes this season, and as Pauline notes, that's not great production for a player that's considered a possession receiver. There's still time for Sutton to turn things around, but he certainly doesn't look like the first-round prospect so many believed him to be coming into 2017.

Saquon Barkley - RB - Nittany Lions

NFL.com draft expert Daniel Jeremiah believes that Penn State junior RB Saquon Barkley is a better draft prospect than Ezekiel Elliot was.

Well, that's certainly high praise. Jeremiah called Barkley "the most dominant player" in college football, and then dropped the bomb that he agreed with an NFL executive he spoke with in saying that he was a better prospect than Elliot was. "I don't know that I've seen a better combination of size, power, elusiveness and explosiveness," Jeremiah said. "A lot of times you'll see guys with 2, or maybe 3, of those qualities. Barkley has all four." This is obviously lofty praise, but anyone who has seen the running back play this year would struggle to disagree that he's the best running back prospect in this draft. He is a candidate to go in the first five picks this April.

Here's my, "Stop Sickness, you have a problem" too-early, dream draft:

1. Chosen Rosen
1a. Trade up w/ the 2nds and get future HOFer Christian Wilkins (yes, I said it's a dream).
3. Auburn OG Braden Smith (after signing Justin Pugh to play C).
4... Don't know yet.

Staley, Braden, Pugh, whoever wins the RG position and Brown. Decent OL.

Sign Terrell Pryor too. He & Garcon would be ok.

But dat DL:

LDE: Thomas
DT: Wilkins
DT: Buckner
RDE: Lynch / Tank / AA Whoever the crap...

That'd be a bada** DL despite the lack of a truly great RDE. I miss pseudo-sober Aldon. :(

Mitch Hyatt - T - Tigers

NFL Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline was impressed with how Clemson sophomore T Mitch Hyatt performed on Saturday against Boston College.

Hyatt was going up against a tough Boston College defensive line -- particularly potential high-pick Harold Landry -- and Pauline believes the sophomore more than held his own. "I’m still not sold Hyde projects to left tackle at the next level," Pauline said "but it was a very good showing for the big man." Hyatt will likely start 2018 as one of the top offensive line prospects in the country.

Josh Allen - QB - Cowboys

Wyoming's Josh Allen dropped another spot in NFL Media's QB rankings and now sits at No. 10.

"He's not getting much help from his supporting cast, and he's barely hanging on to a spot in the top 10 after opening the season at No. 3 in these rankings," NFL.com writes. Allen completed just nine passes against Hawaii in an overtime game. We are sure there were drops, but... wow.

Courtland Sutton - WR - Mustangs

Draft insider Tony Pauline says "all signs" point to SMU redshirt junior WR Courtland Sutton entering the 2017 NFL Draft and has narrowed his list of potential agents.

Pauline states Sutton will delay the process until after the season and continue to focus his efforts on the field. Sutton's production has really dropped off through four games, as he's caught just 13 passes for 217 yards and five touchdowns.

The best DT in the nation. Too bad he's only a true sophomore:

Ed Oliver - DL - Cougars

Houston sophomore DT Ed Oliver was named to the All-PFF national team after his performance against Texas Tech last week.

Oliver (6'3/310) "only" had five tackles including two tackles for loss with a sack, but that doesn't come close to illustrating how dominant he was against the Red Raiders. He was consistently in the face of Texas Tech QB Nic Schimonek, showing off his impressive speed, strength and motor. If Oliver were eligible for the 2017 draft, he'd be a top 10 candidate. Teams will have to wait until 2019 to get their mitts on him.

1z works for Sports Illustrated.

Saquon Barkley - RB - Nittany Lions

Albert Breer spoke to one AFC executive who described Penn State junior RB Saquon Barkley as "He’s so f---ing good."

We agree, anonymous executive. "You can build an offense around him," the same personnel man said, adding Barkley is "way better" than Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliott. The term "rare" kept popping up, as well as finding a running who can do everything at a top level. Barkley can shine in both the running game and passing game, which is difficult to find. Bovada currently lists him as a co-favorite for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

I still considered Fournette last year as a possibility but I definitely have Barkley higher for preference.

Fournette is doing okay for me in FF.

Jags are not exactly a fearsome offense but hoping he ramps up, not just for FF reasons.

If we're going offense it better be for a QB (Rosen/Darnold), or WR Christian Kirk, or OT Orlando Brown. Selecting a RB in the top 5 when we already have Hyde would be crazy. We really need to extend Hyde after the season.
