If his ask is so far off the charts a team whose legit SB contender status depends on him can’t sign him, that’s going to be a big drag in his trade value. Who is in a better position for him to be in than we are? Yes, there are teams with more cap room, but his cap hit this year actually goes down once we extend him. So if we are saying his deal makes so little sense for us long-term that we’ll throw away a legit SB run this season, with a mostly veteran team, what message does that send to teams who would trade rosters with us in a heartbeat?

Only maybe exceptions I can see is if this is Paraag being inflexible (which may or may not be a good thing) or it’s not about money but the % guaranteed or not having those escape chutes Niners like to build in and some other teams have a different philosophy, but even there those teams will be aware we have limited trading partners.

Ahh, right on. That's good.

Well not good that he got hurt of course, but good that they won't be tempted to burn a return designation on him.

Yeah, you will rarely, if ever, see proven talent swapped in the NFL. Its pretty counter productive to acquire high end talent by trading away high end talent.

Not paying Bosa his asking price is idiotic.

So you would pay him $50M a year?

Do you know what Bosa's asking price is, how much he is asking for in guaranteed money, and what the impact is on the cap? Obviously you must to be able to determine that the ask is even financially possible or else how can you determine if not doing something that may not even be possible is "idiotic"? Please post the specifics so others can determine for ourselves if it is indeed "idiotic".

When you have the most talented defender in the game you pay him and worry about the rest later. No reason to nickel & dime a guy of his stature.

He's not asking for that.

Again, can you provide some evidence/any evidence that Bosa's ask is even possible within the team's cap structure? To "worry" about piddly things later, which players need to be cut in order to not "nickel and dime" him? You make a lot of bold statements about people being "idiotic" but you aren't providing any facts to back it up.

They have 2-3 years to win a SB. If they don't, they probably wouldn't keep him for the full length of that contract.

Especially if Purdy merits a big extension.

Hopefully Bosa's been keeping himself in great shape on his own and picks up on Wilks' game plan instantly!

Welp, I guess we blinked. 122.5 is the real number, but it’s still massive. But honestly last day or so it’s been hitting me how hard this was to negotiate because even Donald didn’t have the same leverage, they were basically reworking it to keep him happy, and he was older. This was gonna be out one the edge by itself, it was just a matter of how far. But without the comps, it’s not surprising it got tricky. Still wished they had gotten on it earlier, but not sure what difference it would have made.

Maybe one good thing is that Chris Jones will demand $30 million plus after this Bosa deal.

Chiefs will hurt without Jones and Kelce playing.

I don't even have the presence of mind right now to evaluate it. Huge guaranteed money, which means it would be very difficult to trade or cut him down the road. That said, of all guys on the team, Bosa is the one I'm least worried about suddenly losing interest and dogging it. There's always the injury concern, but he's really only had soft tissue stuff that is kind of fluky. No chronic issues like Ford.

Thank God it happened before the weekend, now let's start the season off with a win in Pittsburgh.

So did the 49ers blink? With that contract, what the hell was the hold up or compromise?

Thank god he got signed. It will be interesting to hear the ins and outs of the contract. I am assuming we have him for the next 5 years not his rookie contract+5 more years

Smart move by Bosa to hold out. He got everything he wanted and got to sit on his ass all camp.

Glad the Bosa deal is finally done. Apparently he's on his way to California and was going to try to be in the building by the end of the day.

$34 mil a season is crazy big money for a non QB. But when you have the luxury of having elite players, you have to pay them top tier $ to keep them. Its going to be tough maintain the roster wide talent in the next few years. But the good news is, they aren't overpaying to keep marginal talent like they did with Armstead.

One of the earlier potential ripple effects, will be possibly not being able to retain Aiyuk. But he will be tradeable, and we'll worry about that when the time comes.

For now, lets be happy DPOY is back in the building and should be available for week 1.
