Man, don't love that restructure of Big Trent. Or arguably even Kittle. Trent has what, two years left? MAYBE three? And I wouldn't be shocked if he walked away if we win the SB. Potentially tacking on years of dead money seems like a big mistake.

$34 mil a season is crazy big money for a non QB. But when you have the luxury of having elite players, you have to pay them top tier $ to keep them. Try impossible. They've already been kicking the can down the road for years, particularly with Dee Ford. We're going to have to make some really tough calls and either cut or trade players as soon as next offseason. It's win now mode for sure.

That is suppose to bring more money to each team so the cap should go way up?

Or are they limiting cap rises each year on purpose?

They dropped Austin Bryant upon signing Bosa. Man, we are thin at DE. Just Bosa, who may not play full snaps, Ferrell, Jackson, and Hyder. I would expect Bryant would go to the PS and get called up this week, but still kind of odd to make a cut at that position.

Hearing the cap room cleared to pursue trading for Chandler Jones or Brian Burns (more sources mentioning the former).

He was resigned to PS and will be elevated for the game

Tough to see either, but the way this offseason has gone, it's clear I don't know a darn thing about what this FO will do.

Jones is older, wasn't great last year, and has a very hefty contract. I'd rather just go with Melvin Ingram. Save the pick and a fair bit a money, and probably land comparable if not superior production.

As for Burns, he's in line for a top contract. I don't see how we can have three of those guys on one DL.

The fear with Bosa's deal is that 49ers would soon have to make difficult roster choices, either cut some players with high contracts in a couple of season or be unable to extend some very good players.

For instance, if Aiyuk has another 1000 yard season with at least 8 TDs as he had last season, he's going to command a huge contract when he becomes UFA in 2025.

Can the team keep Samuel, Kittle and Aiyuk, each earning $20 million or more, in 2025?

They might be able to pull it off if Purdy is playing well the next 2-3 seasons on his rookie deal. He won't be up for extension until the 2026 season.

The other factor is how fast the salary cap goes up. NFL is just making an insane amount of money with the TV contract. The amount that each team receives from TV has gone up much faster than the salary cap, so there's room for the salary cap to grow, even in just the next couple of season.

Purdy will get an extension in two years. He's signed through the 2025 season, but there's no way he's playing on his rookie deal once he's eligible to re-sign.
