Maybe he doesn't practice well enough.

He simply could not possibly be worse than Bell, even though Bell is a decent blocker.

And some guys are gamers. Bell is the antithesis of that. He can make plays in practice, but seems to freeze up under the bright lights. When Cowing has gotten a chance in games, in the preseason and the regular season, he has made impact plays.

Practice window open for CMC and Feliciano. I would LOVE for Feliciano to replace Brendel at C. Or at least get a shot to. If we could get more consistent play from that position, it would make a big difference for us.

Kind of hated to see TB hang around with KC last night. That might boost their confidence a bit going into our game. That said, OT Monday night game resulting in a loss is ultimately a good situation for us. We've got to have a plan to take Otton away. Cannot let them get him matched up on Campbell.

Niners traded a seventh-round pick next year for DT Khalil Davis from the Texans. Davis is basically a replacement-level player, so doesn't really move the needle at all, but it's another body on the DL. Slightly better pass-rusher than run stuffer this year, but his PFF score is in the 50s in both.

Yeah, its basically a nothing burger of a trade. Both in terms of what they got and what they gave up. Although, as we have seen recently 7th round picks can yield extraordinary results. Incredibly rare for that to happen though

On a side note, when I first read about that trade I was like wait, what? I thought it said Kalia Davis, and was like did they cut him recently and I didn't hear about it, and then decided they wanted him back?

49ers waived Jalen Graham to make room on the roster. Hopefully he comes back to the PS, but he might go back to the Commanders or elsewhere. I'd love to keep him, especially with Robinson on IR, but if he can't crack our LB rotation, odds are he's not going to go elsewhere and be a difference-maker.

Re: Davis, he has played almost 1/3 of defensive snaps for the Texans, and a decent proportion of STs snaps, too, so hopefully he can at least fill in with limited fall-off. Really would have liked to see them get Za'Darius Smith instead of Detroit, but otherwise nothing happened where I'm really bummed.

49ers bring back Tashaun Gipson via a practice squad signing.

Gipson has not played at all this season, and is 34 years old. But he was quite solid with SF the last 2 seasons. This is a zero risk, potentially nice reward type of signing. At the very least, it provides some viable depth at thin position.

Brady is calling our game again this weekend. Bleh. I know it isn't logical, but I just feel like Brady is a jinx. Seems like Brock's worst games have come with Brady in the booth, and given Brock knocked him off in his first start - the only rookie QB to ever beat Brady, I think - I wouldn't be surprised if he's done some black magic, deal with the devil stuff to curse Brock....

In other news, Mayfield is dealing with an injury and there's at least a chance he won't play.

This game is as close to a must-win as it comes. This team is seriously depleted, they're coming off a tough Monday night loss. And we have upcoming road games against Buffalo and GB, not to mention hosting Detroit. And the conference games don't feel like gimmes this year. If we lose this, it's going to be a steep hill to climb to win the division, and even harder to see us claiming a WC spot if we fall to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the division.

So far I find Brady pretty cardboard as an announcer, so that’s meh. Early days I suppose, but I don’t remember another recent example of a player’s quality as a commentator being assumed based on his greatness as a player. They are very different things and Tom was never a particularly interesting interview or speaker to the press. I get that he’s a workaholic perfectionist, but not sure you can grind out charisma.

The roster with BA down is interesting in that the only players who can reliably beat man are a TE and a RB. And it’ll be interesting to see if CMC beats man as much without BA drawing off the best man defender (majority of the time) and/or doubles. I’m not optimistic, I think we’re just too limited, kinda like the Jimmy G days without the killer D. But maybe we’ve just been spoiled and this might still be better than I’m crediting it. Or maybe an ironic twist is a rookie wr under Shanahan emerging as the man beater/draw the team lacks.

I feel like there is some major protection issues going on. I don't know who's fault it is but something needs to change

I've got to assume that's on Williams. Rules are almost always inside-out, and it was a pretty conventional five-man rush. Trent apparently expected Banks to come to his side, but Banks had a DT on his inside shade.

At least we seemingly had Kittle in to help this time, but Brendel again shifts protection to the side with two rushers instead of the side with three. WTF?

I didn't mind Brady much. He definitely isn't annoying like Collingsworth. He also brings some of the nuances of playing QB to the game. He points out some of the things Purdy did right and wrong. That one rainbow pass he floated late in game Brady said that is how he should have thrown the ball in that situation. I wouldn't have thought that.

Seriously, how the hell is Brian Schneider still employed. ST's has been consistently bad for years with large pockets of terribleness mixed in as well.

What else needs to happen before a change is made?

It is just incredible that he still has his job. Kyle doesn't seem to recognize how this is ruining his team. Surely he does, but why no changes?

Niners extended Lenoir. Five years, $92 million. Big contract, but he's earned it. Makes him about the 12 highest-paid CB, though I'm guessing that could change by several spots after this offseason. Good to have it done and have him around for the next several years. With Green looking legit, but pretty much every other CB (except Luter, whose biggest contributions to date have been completely **** the bed on PR blocking) on the roster a FA this offseason, it puts us in decent shape at the position going forward.

Well, the Hawks have a shaky OL and their center just retired, so we'd better f-ing win this one regardless of who plays for us....
