I can't trust any of these college QBs who put up big numbers on a stacked team.

Huge dominant OL giving them a lot of time and WRs who separate easily from college DBs.

That Penn State made a great play on one 50-50 ball, catching it one-handed undercutting the DB. But being so short, that's unlikely to be a play he makes often in the NFL.

Sampson James on Indiana is going to be fun to watch when he's finally a starter

Lawrence can't bail out the defense, which wasn't getting any pressure and was tackling poorly. Second year in a row in the big game he couldn't carry the team. Not a failing but maybe they should slow the roll with the generational prospect hype.

Fiedls put up a lot of points but he had protection so not convinced by him either. He threw up that lazy pass into the corner of the end zone with 3 defenders there and it was easy picked.

Couple of QB items: Texas A&M's Kellen Mond is entering the draft, Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder returning for Senior season.

If we end up trading for Stafford it’ll force us to trade back (from #12 to the 20s; again from the 20s to the mid/late 30s) to acquire more picks. I’d love to bring in Jamie Newman to back up Stafford for 2 / 3 years.

I like how Lance would project in Kyle’s offense, but I really don’t like the idea of passing up on Justin Fields for him:

It's hard to see the QBs falling that far. But it would be great if one of the top four is available.

Possible 3rd round pick to watch: Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater C Quinn Meinerz won a lot of praise during Senior Bowl week. He's expected to now be taken in the 90-110 range in the draft. Reportedly practiced well at G, too. Niners seem to be sure to look into IOL at some point in the draft.

He’s one of my favorite prospects in this draft class. I really like him! He can also play center.

JUSTIN FIELDS
QB, COLLEGE PLAYER

ESPN's Adam Schefter believes four quarterbacks will be selected within the first six or seven picks of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Schefter said that we can "take that to the bank." It appears that there is a heavy market for all five of the consensus Round 1 quarterbacks, which isn't a surprise to those who have been tracking the upcoming draft. Trevor Lawrence is a near lock to go to Jacksonville, and then there's Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones. Any or all four of these quarterbacks could be top-10 picks. Their possible suitors include the Jets, Falcons, Eagles, Lions, Panthers, Broncos, 49ers, and Patriots with others also in the mix.

Please do not give up significant assets to trade up.

Oh, I think we can be pretty confident we're going to give up some significant assets to trade up at some point in the early rounds. Shanahan and Lynch have a pretty pronounced MO. Might not be in the first for a QB, but it's gonna happen. They fall hard for specific players.

I think I’m leaning Jaelan Phillips in the first. His melon has to check out though. Lots of concussions.

If we're looking at one of those guys, we should trade back.

Horn just murdered his Pro Day right now. My goodness. He might not even make it to our pick now. Farley back surgery and a so so 40 for Surtain. Classic. Ugh.

Not sure if these numbers are official, but I'm seeing Horn at 4.39 and Surtain at 4.42.

You're right, though, Horn probably is rising. I have no problem with a CB in the first. If we don't make a move for a QB, CB is probably the first position we should look at. DE would also make sense, though it would be so galling to use yet another first round pick on the DL.

Surtain's numbers, for comparison:

Horn's are better, basically across the board, but they're so close - and both basically elite - that teams aren't going to change their minds about their rankings based on those. That said, it's entirely likely at least some teams have Horn ranked ahead.

Kills me that the corners seem not to do the agility drills any more. That was the case at last year's combine, too.
