On the heels of the agent’s optimistic report, came a ESPN NFL Insiders report that after the medical rechecks this past Friday, the rotator cuff hasn't healed as expected and even the possibility of a second surgery was postulated.
What is the truth here? It is usually somewhere in the middle. Regardless, Foster is capable of being ready for the season. But there is concern.
As for when he is full-go, it depends on what type of rotator cuff surgery he underwent.
If he had a debridement of a partial tear like Cam Newton recently had, Foster should be close to ready by now (and his agent would likely be trumpeting how close he is). If he had a rotator cuff tear where sutures were used in the surgery (which seems likely), that would mean a minimum of six months of recovery resulting in starting training camp on the non-football injury list.
Rotator cuff tears requiring true repair are unusual in a 23-year-old, and teams might worry about recurrent shoulder problems.
