We’re going in the cold weather next week, but not as cold as last year.

Phew. Why in the world we sent a single pass rusher - a LB at that - who just ran into the only guy standing between him and the QB, is completely beyond me. You line DEs up on either side of Elliott there, and have them both tee off on Dak. Worked out, but that was dumb.

Re: Playoffs, Divisional Week: Cowboys @ 49ers
Welp, now the focus shifts to Philadelphia.
9ers will be going into that game at a disadvantage.
1) Philly will have 1 day of additional rest/pre-prep game planning
2) Philly is at home
3) 9ers are making a cross country trip
4) NFCCG is the early game next Sunday (although being a 3:30 kickoff is better than the usual 1pm kickoff)
5) Philly was completely untested yesterday, that game was basically over after the 1st quarter. Really Eagles havent faced stiff competition for almost a month. Week 18 Giants played their C team against them, they had a bye last week, and completely cruised yesterday

Very physical game. Their DL dominated most of the game. Their OL did in the first half.
They had nobody who could cover Kittle but 49ers didn’t take advantage until second half. Too much pressure on Purdy.
Saw Bosa get blown off the ball once and got popped on that last drive.
Philly OL is probably the best in the NFL. 49ers are going to be the underdog. It’s not just their run game. Brown and Smith are going to challenge the secondary and their pass defense is great too, especially 4 pass rushers with double digit sacks this year.
It’s going to be a war in the trenches with Hurts presenting a huge challenge.

Games like these are very good experience for Purdy's development and mentality.
Offense had to fight and battle for almost everything they got. Finding a way to navigate through the rough seas and coming out on top when things weren't coming easily at all, is beneficial for the rook.

That was a defensive matchup. The Niners made Dak look like a pretty middling QB at best.

Philly's pass rush is just as good, if not actually a bit better than Dallas'. So that will be key factor in game planning this week. Kyle has to build a plan around being able to combat the rush better.
And yes, the 9ers pass rush disappears far too often. DeMeco has got to find a way to create some pressure with somebody other than Bosa. BTW, where the hell is Armstead? Also with Hurts back there, you have to be careful blitzing and risking losing contain on the QB. LB's have to keep their eyes on Jalen and take proper angles on him.

I feel like they need to activate Drake Jackson next week.
Need to up the pass rush talent, its lacking a bit too much.

Re: Playoffs, Divisional Week: Cowboys @ 49ers
It was a good grind-it-out win and while there were plenty of issues I do think you have to keep in perspective that it is the playoffs where you're facing quality teams especially in the divisional round and beyond and it's not going to always look like a well-oiled machine out there.
Gotta play better next week because I don't see us beating the Eagles if they play like they did today though. Hopefully this game was enough of a test that it revealed some things they need to iron out and work on before the Eagles game because they are going to be tougher to beat than this team.

Seems the 49ers had more success in the second half running inside. Dallas was able to stuff outside runs

Think it boils down to just wearing them out.
Probably where the shorter week worked against Dallas as they seemed to just didn't come out quite with the same energy and focus they did in the 1st half.

Re: Playoffs, Divisional Week: Cowboys @ 49ers
Big win to knock off a good team on a mission after we bumped them from the playoffs last year. But we will need to really step up our performance on both sides of the ball to hang with Philly. The Eagles have scared me all year because of their strength on both lines and their mobile QB.
On offense, Philly is better than Dallas at pretty much every position except maybe RB (at least before Pollard went down), where they still have a deep stable of good, complementary backs. They have arguably the best starting pair of WRs in the league, a really good TE, a good, mobile QB, and an excellent OL. I think our D will struggle, particularly containing Hurts if/when he runs. Lane Johnson is playing on a hurt ankle, so hopefully Bosa can give him fits, but the rest of our DL just isn't getting consistent pressure. We need more out of Drake Jackson next year.
Their DL is also excellent. Our offense, and the OL in particular, will have to play much better than we did yesterday. We need to open holes in the run game and give Purdy time to throw. I don't think we win this weekend with 19. We'll need to be in the high 20s, at least.
A big test, but this team is talented enough to win this one if they play to their abilities.

Actually kinda surprised that Philly is only 2.5 point favorites; I thought it would be a little higher. They are similar to Dallas in that they also have a great pass rush except Philly can send more guys at you while Parsons is the primary pass rushing threat for Dallas. But I think Philly's O-line is much better than Dallas and Hurts is a more dangerous QB (both throwing and especially running) than Dak. We will have to be better in the trenches (both the D-line to match the Eagles O-linemen and definitely our O-line in both run and pass blocking) to get to the Super Bowl. Other than week 7 against KC, this will be our toughest test.

I admittedly haven't watched much of Philly this year, but my sense is that Dallas has more raw talent at pass-rusher between Parsons and Lawrence, but Philly has loads of depth and maybe (?) more effective pass-rush scheming. That might give us a tick or two longer to get the ball out than we had this week. Parsons is pretty unique in his ability to win instantly. As good as Bosa is, and he's amazing, his pass rush is based on power and technique, instantaneous counters. He's not a Von Miller in his prime who can just blow by defender's virtually untouched and win in 1.5 seconds.
The hope for me was that Jackson had some of that instant-win ability. Obviously not giving up on that at this point, but the fact he hasn't been active lately is something of a concern. Ebukam is a solid all-around player, but he's not a great pass rusher. Most of his pressure comes on second efforts. Omenihu is pretty clearly our second-best rusher, and he's similar to Bosa in that he needs to get his hands on guys and move them.
